How about a mid summer check in?

What has been the biggest surprise to being an older pg mom?

During my last pg at 39 I was surprised how good I felt. I felt normal. I felt young.....

Well, I'm 39 but I can't say I feel young. lol Then again...I'm anything but normal. My pgcy is high risk. Lots more aches and pains than I'm sure a 29 year old feels...but if it's worth it in the end. So be it.

Oh my- I know- all my pgs were high risk. That was why the last one felt so strange. I would go along in my day and stop and have to remind myself I was pg.... before that was all that was on my mind. The other pgs had so much drama...... now that little surprise is all the Drama.... she's almost 7 and thinks she is 16...... she is a hoot!

Hi ladies!
Biggest surprise was being carded for ID buying beer & wine the other day .
I've been risk-free according to my OB, except for some reflux issues, mild asthma and having the flu mid-way thru. Since this is baby #1 I don't have a frame of reference to compare to being a 20-something and being pg. No one has made an "older mom" comment to me the entire way. My luck, or their not having noticed I'm pg (I'm carrying on the sides).

I am 39 and this is our first so I really do not have anything to compare it to, either. I had a dickens of a time sleeping last night. Seemed like my blood just wasn't circulating properly in my legs so I kept waking and moving them around. They feel fine today. Hmmm. Go figure. Even though I am potentially highrisk on account of about 4-5 things (1 being my age)- so far we have had no issues with 2 months to go. I definitely need to get into the pool more and I am still mowing the lawn (hubby starts it for me). SO far I am very pleased. My muscular back issues in the low right are due to being lopsided in the breast department (previous lumpectomy and radiation) and that has been by far the most difficult thing for me so far. It really pulls and gets tight back there. Thus why I need to hit the pool more to get the movement with less strain, and more support from the water.

Christine- Wow I just noticed how close you are to delivering. best of luck! No planned c-section? Are you still waiting for your body and baby to tell you it's time? Did you do a birth plan?

Congrats to one and all! -Shelley

Hi Shelly! Wow you're crazy active mowing the grass and all! I try to make my DH more chores than me, but it's still 50/50, hmm. We have a birth plan that OB is happy with too- natural, meds-free, delivery in squat or on birthstool or sideways or whatever, no to low intervetions.... We shall see! No c/s its completely unnecessary unless there is distress in labor of me or baby, which we're avoiding with pain coping techniques, music, Tens Stim, and anti-anxiety meds I've had all along. Again it's a plan, but puttint it in writing makes me feel better that the options are there for drug-free birth (except my litle chip of Ativan). Don't want drugged sluggish epidurally baby, just my very own personal thought.

I am hoping to go med-free too, but unless I find some excellent "pain coping techniques" or unless I just go to fast, I will probably end up resorting to them. What kind of techniques are you using? How did you deliver your oher kids? Squatting is out for me- bad knees and achilles. I fully realize that many birthplans go right out the window, but at least I can prioritize some options at the very least. I read something about hypno-birthing. It sounds intriguing, and I would have to do something that I could implement myself with perhaps some support from hubby. Thoughts? Thanks!

Hi Shel.
This is our first child. Prada is our furbaby, 6 lb Shih-Tzu .
I read Birthing from Within cover to cover, and we took the class that accompanied it. It's mind games, distractions, your DH "taking charge" when it's too much for you to bear, movement, taking bath/ shower, visualizations, breathing in patterns, imagining ocean waves slowly carrying you away, a lot of things.
I'm hoping it will work for me! Will post up here, or in the August Due Date Board when our bunny arrives how it really "went down" for me .

Christine
