1st U/S Normal??
After TTC for over 2 years, and at the age of 39 11/12, we're finally pregnant! Than after worrying over slow rising betas, we had our 1st ultrasound on Wednesday. Yea....a heartbeat of 119bpm, and a baby measuring 5w5d (right on track) per the u/s tech. However, I've read quite a bit that says the baby should measure 3mm-5mm (or more) at this point? I'm really worried about having a viable pregnancy and healthy baby. Does the heartrate and size sound okay? We've got another u/s scheduled in 2 weeks...the wait is horrible!

Congrats on your pregnancy. I think that you are perfectly fine. Most women don't even get to see a HB that early. I didn't. I only saw a gestational and yolk sac at 5 1/2 weeks and didn't see the hb until 6 1/2 weeks, which was 140bpm at that point and my little guy is 9 1/2 mths olds now!!! Your baby's hb should be much higher at your next u/s as they tend to go up and then level off at around 9 - 12 weeks. Congrats again and best of luck

Congrats! Seeing the h.b. is a big milestone... probably more important (at least in my opinion) than actual size measurements. I would do your best not to stress too much (easier said than done!) -- there's a lot of wiggle room on "should be's" both in terms of the expected values, and how the measurements are taken.
I don't know how much traffic this board is getting -- you may want to also look for a pregnancy by month (i'm forgetting the name) board to post... it's nice to have company from folks who are at about the same stage as you are as you go through this journey. Nice to have 35+ support too. :-) Me? DD#1 at 39 (a few months shy of the big 40) and DD#2 at 41 (a week shy of 42). Day by day, week by week, month by month -- hard not to worry but do your best! Best of luck, -tia |

Our first heartbeat was 122bpm. Since we were using a RE we got the US early so that was an early heart rate. The following heartrates were significantly higher. We are not past the 26 week point. So 19 sure sounds fine to me. Best of luck! -Shel

*barge*Congrats! Everything sounds just fine
You are so lucky to have seen a hb! In my last pg this past year, at 5w4d we only saw one gest sac (no pole, no yolk) at 6w3d saw a hB! and not until 8w1d did we find out it was twins! Congrats again!
