DS question
Hello,
When i was pregnant with my Son, i was 33 yrs old. I kinda forgot the details but i think when they check my blood, it was a high risk DS and as he put it higher than that of a 36yr old. The Dr asked me to terminate immediately. I wasn't ready to give up so he did a amino that same day. 2 weeks later my baby turned out to be normal. I was lucky not to listen to him. Now i'm pregnant again and am quite worried about the possibility of ds. Does anyone been in my situation and the next baby is a DS? Thank you..

I think each pg carries its own risk unless there is a genetic defect carried by the parents. Congrats! update us when you get the results back!

Hopebaby: Although the chances do go up at 35, I would not spend your pregnancy worrying about ds. At 35 the chances are 1 in 400. I am currently 43 yrs old and 23 wks pg. The chance of having a pg with downs at my age was 1 in 39. Well guess what. I am having a perfect baby girl.
I dont understand why your Dr would have you terminate your first pregnancy based on bloodwork. Given the fact that he was wrong after the amnio, I hope you switched dr.'s. |

I don't know why i stayed..stupid of me. He really got me worried for almost 3 weeks..he mentioned that the odds was 1:125 or something like that. He said it was less than a 36 yrs old. I was really glad not listening o him at his suggestion of terminating my pregnancy. It was more like forcing me to do it actually. My Hubby and i was really confused and even after we insisted on aminio, he was persisitent on abortion. Even one of the nurse were send to talked me into it. It was so insensitive of her. I found out later she was never married or ever pregnant. I was wondering, does these Doctors get more money by aborting babies..just wondering.
I'm just worried about this baby. Now i am going to a diffrent Dr. I hope this Dr is okay. |

Wow! I can just imagine what your doctor would tell me,.........pregnant for the first time at 44,,,,,,,,. Chances for me with downs started at 1 - 20 based on my age.
Well, so sad, too bad. I delivered my DD 11-22-08, age 45, and she is perfect in every way. Interestingly enough, more downs babies are born to younger mothers. Because they have more children statistically. Even though age is more probable. Spinning stats is always so much fun. Best of luck with your pregnancy and your new doctor. You are doing the right thing, listen to your heart as a mother. Lauri |
