Surprise! I'm pregnant at 39....

Since this was a total surprise......I am freaking out! I wil be 39 in a few weeks. I'm more worried about miscarriage and downs and defects more than anything. I'm due Jan 6. Can anyone help me out? I need to find a way to calm down.

Congrats!!!! I needed progesterone support when I was pg at 39.

What a wonderful suprise!!!! My boy, born when I was 40 is absolutely perfect. I had a terrific Maternal Fetal specialist that relieved all my worries. Hooking up with an OB you are comfortable with helps with the anxiety.

Be prepared to be called "Of advanced maternal age" then blow it off!

I am thrilled for you!

Why would you need progesterone? I had a blood test to check levels yesterday and need to go back tomorrow to have blood drawn again. I guess they want to make sure it's going up......the levels..Im really scared though.....How far along are you?

Congratulations! There are a lot more of us "older moms" out there than I thought at first.

Congratulations on your surprise. I am 39 and 18wks, I am also just over a year out following chemo therapy. My quad screen and nuchal fold all came back good. Will be having our detailed US in 2 weeks when we are 20 wks along. It is too early to say all is well yet, but Just wanted to let you know that it can be done, has been done, and the chances are still inyour favor for having a healthy baby. Best of luck! -Shelley

Hold on! My son is now 8 years old so I was just relateing what I needed at 39 to have a successful pg. Not everyone needs progesterone support. Your MD will determine that via bloodwork. It is different from the rising estrogen which is what they are making sure goes up. Some of us older women do not make enough progesterone but my MD determined that I had a luteal phase deficit before I even got pg.

Congrats and take a few deep breaths.

I'm 43, just found out I'm pg. My progesterone was 13.9. The doc likes it to be over 11, but since I have had issues in prior pregnancies w/progesterone she went ahead and put me on supplements.

Well, I'm glad I'm not alone. I got a BFP the day before my 39th birthday and seriously, I laughed because I swore it was a joke. I went straight to the HPT package to read the expiration date because I just knew it was defective. Nope, betas came back at:

50-14dpo
100-16dpo
331-18dpo

So I guess I really am pregnant. I am due for one last beta on Monday and then my RE will start talking u/s (if the beta is over 1K which it should be). Honestly, this was just the most shocking thing ever as we had to do IVF for our first conception, then had chemical pgs on IVF#2 and 3. We were gearing up for IVF#4 next month and now this! Absolutely crazy...I don't think I'll believe it until I see a h/b since my history is rather tumultuous when it comes to being able to keep a pgcy. So I know I'm not out of the woods yet...just trying to remain hopeful.
