amnio

So I have decided to have amnio. After the amnio, when will I be out of the woods with a miscarage risk? A few days or weeks? When can I stop worrying if I am one of the 1 in 270 or so. I'll ask my doc next week but I'd like to know before then.

Not sure but wanted to wish you luck.

You might also post over on the general pg board if you haven't already -- there's often more traffic.

I did not ask this question directly but got the impression that if something was going to go wrong it would do so fairly quickly. I had it done on a Tuesday and my OB and midwife were happy for me to fly to the UK on the Friday. (Christmas visit to family booked pre pregnancy). They just wanted me to rest and take it easy the day of and day after. My OB also told me that the stats now are nearer one in eight hundred which made me feel much better, especially as I had a double dip because of twins. It is nerve wracking but none of it was nearly as bad as I thought it would be and I'm glad I went ahead with it. Good luck.

So I have the official answer from my doctor. He said one full week to be sure everything was ok. Right now I am 3 full days since and have not had any side effects thank goodness. Not really even cramping or the leaking that is to be expected. I feel pretty safe by now. I think the one week is an outside number just to be extra safe.

The procedure itself really was not big deal. It was more pressure than pain. Less than a pinch. Compared to she shots I gave myself with IVF this was a breeze. When my doc told me he did both of his wife's amnios I felt better.
