amnio results: all's well!

I posted on the general pregnancy board, but I also wanted to give my fellow ancients the good word: my amnio came back normal, in spite of a 95 percentile hcG level and an absent nasal bone at 12 weeks. (I have a feeling my baby's nose is going to be a favorite feature now!) I'm so amazingly relieved. Though I have a friend who has a child with Downs--who is a doll--and so it's not totally unfamiliar to me, I was feeling quite overwhelmed by the idea of adding a third who would likely need a lot of extra attention. I know myself well enough to realize I am not the most patient mother...

And we learned we are having a boy, so my big boy--age 7--will finally have another boy in the family (so far he's got a little sister and four girl cousins, much loved, but still, nice to have a brother!)

I've been searching around to find out what your results are - congratulations! I too have a high hCG result (everything else is normal) and am terrified. I have a history of recurrent miscarriages (4 and no live births) and am also terrified of having an amnio. I will wait until the 20 week scan, see how that goes, and then reevaluate whether or not I should have an amnio. I really don't want to do it. I want to know - but I am scared to know and I am afraid of the risks.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy, and again, congrats to your good news.

Ali

Hi--I know it's scary to get results like that--I was just convinced that we'd discover we had a baby with Downs. But if all else is normal, I think the one high result is not likely to be very meaningful. I think a cluster of abnormal results is more likely to be a cause for concern, according to what I've read. But it's hard not to worry.

Let me know what you learn from the ultrasound....

Take care,

Tracy
