Trying for 1st Pregnancy, 40 + and Health Concerns
Hi. I'm Sasha. I am 41 - soon to be 42 years old. I was pregnant in 2006 but had many fibroids. I miscarried at 10 weeks after getting pregnant very quickly. I married at age 40. I had a natural miscarriage and waited six months before having an abdominal myomectomy - to remove 46 fibroids from my uterus. It was a miracle that my doctor removed them all while preserving my uterus. Eight months later - we got the greenlight to try to conceive. We are now in our third month trying and will give it three more tries before seeing a fertility specialist. Two fibroids have returned and my doctor is hoping that they won't interfere with pregnancy. My husband and I really want a baby and hope to get pregnant on this third try and if not in the three more after this. If not, we will do whatever fertility treatments are necessary. I am trying to get into the best possible shape. I gained weight from the first pregnancy and the fboirds growing - about 40 pounds. I still have about 25 pounds to lose. However, if we get pregnant now - that's perfectly fine. I am exercising daily and trying to get the best nutrition and vitamins possible pre-conception. I am interested in hearing from others who have similar stories like mine and hopefuly succesful ones. My husband is 37 years old. This will be our first child for both of us. Please share any stories, preconception advice, etc. possible. We are using the fertility monitor which helped us with our first pregnancy. It would be great to hear from older moms-to-be or women who became moms at older ages with their very first child - if possible. Of course - advice is welcome from all others as well.

Sasha- My name is Lisa, and I am 41 years old, and 15 weeks pg, with our first child. I had a fibroid removed in September, and we did ivf in November, and got-pg. We had suffered two m/c due to the fibroid. We are very excited, but cautious due to my age. Of course it is possible to get pg, at our age, so please do not give up hope. I had high fsh, and only one egg fertilized, and it was a grade 4, cell 4, which is the worst. But here I am. So good luck, and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Lisa

Hi Lisa! Thanks so much for responding! That's so wonderful that you're pregnant at 41 after having the surgery and a successful IVF treatment! I hope and pray that all goes well with your pregnancy! I will seek fertility treatments in three months if still no pregnancy. I'll be 42 years old then. I pray and hope that the two fibroids that have grown since my myomectomy will not interfere with pregnancy. We'll just have to wait and see. You must be so ecstatic!!! Let's definitely keep in touch if you don't mind.

Hi--I really recommend reading Toni Weschler's book, Taking Charge of Your Fertility, which shows you how to track your signs of fertility, keep a chart, etc. Weschler argues that this is a more effective way to identify your fertile period than the fertility monitors (and cheaper!).
