Have a question
I didn't know where else to post this. Not many woman my age are having this problem. I am 22 and just found out at the doctor's office that my quad screen came back 1 in 38 that the baby has down syndrome. I don't know what to do. My chances should be like 1 in 1250. With my daughter 2 years ago, tey were like 1 in 1500. How did they go up? I know it is an age thing (no offense), so why are mine so elevated? What are the next steps? I go for my ultrasound on the 4th of Dec. and they said they will look for features and then I go see the genetic counselor on the 12th. What comes after that? I am so worried, can some please help me?
Thanks in advance, Jenn

Jenn,
The quad screen is looking at lspecific evels in the blood- there are false +'s. After age 35 you almost always get a + , multiples also cause false + or high percantages. I am sorry to say I do not know much about younger women with a high percent chance. Did you ask on the gen pg bb? I do know there are women (many ) who have gone on to have additional testing and everything is fine. Your U/s will look for markers as to Down's syndrome and then if they see markers, then they will probably offer an amnio. I would try to wait until the u/s and see how your baby looks. I pray everything goes well.

BC-GoMom,
Thank you so much for your reply. I haven't seen the genetic counselor yet, but I have many questions for him. I don't know what would make my chances jump from 1 in 1500 2 years ago with my DD, but hopefully the ultrasound will have some answers and I won't have to take further steps. Thanks again. Jenn |
