Perimenopause and fertility drugs
Hello ladies, I am curious due to my history....does the extensive use of fertility drugs possibly cause perimenopause??? I am asking this since I did 7 IVF's with my ex-husband
and used clomid for IUI's (4) - I am currently 41, divorced since 2004, became pregnant naturally 3/2007 only to end as a "blighted ovum" and had a d&c 5/2007...my af's are regular but cycles are getting a bit shorter (by a day or 2 no more- 26 to 29 days) and this cycle I was certain I was pregnant again, but as it turned out my body was playing with me as I had been having dark brown spotting for 5 days, nauseous, dizzy, tired........and as I type I believe af is rearing her ugly head and I am downright frustrated and disappointed. I guess what I am trying to say is yes, menopause has entered my mind although I was confirmed my fsh is great for my age...then there is the new word perimenopause which is defined as our body preparing for menopause. I am wondering if any of you have felt this way (paranoid that maybe the fertility drugs could increase ur chance to menopause sooner...I did search the web and it was very interesting...I hope I did not ramble too much as I am a bit emotional at the moment, sorry. Let me know your thoughts. Thank you for taking the time and listen Tamara

When my sister was considering donating eggs to me, we sat down with my RE and he very specifically and explicitly said that the use of fertility drugs and egg donation does not hasten menopause.
The extra eggs that grow and mature used during fertility treatments would have died off that month anyway. Every month there are eggs that are competing to grow and mature. One finally wins out and becomes the dominant follicle while the others the body recruited that month but didn't grow end up dying off. The fertility drugs just allow all the eggs to grow. Make sense? |
