Thank you ladies for the warm welcome

I knew I was not overly young, but when teh genetic couseling thing came up I sort of freaked a bit.
I am sure everything will be fine and I will try not to worry too much.
I go for regular u/s Friday 7/7 to confirm how far along I am, which should be around 8 1/2 weeks. They will then refer me to a genetic couselor and go from there with options. I am sure I will for sure do that nuchal test and then see what they say.
Does anyone know if you get the results right away or not?
I know teh blood work will take a litle bit of time, but how about the u/s part do they tell you right away?
Thanks
Kimberly

Glad you're here! :-) And by the way, with 3 kids under your belt hopefully you'll be reassuring some of us first-time moms to be!

I think they give you unofficial feedback on the u/s as they are doing it (looks great! vs "hmmmm a bit thick"). I asked the same question and the counselor told me if it's "way out of range" they would have me talk to her again on the spot. Officiallly they correlate the nuchal thickness with the bloodwork, and you do have to wait for the b/w results (and so also for the "official combined" result).

I think if it's way out of range at the time of the scan they may want to talk to you about CVS again, and amnio. CVS has an earlier time window so if you decide to do it you can't wait too long. More time to decide on amnio.

Here's hoping everything is "looking" good. :-)

But hopefully someone who's actually had one will know!

Any questions regarding being an old timer in parenting are welcome.
I swear you would think this would get easier, but the ease comes after they are born I guess. LOL!
Thanks again
Kimberly

Hi K,
I remember you from a while back on other bbs. Welcome! Does it really get easier or do we become more relaxed?

That is a good question

The pregnancy is not easier, I think because there is so much unknown.
I think that is a good observation, I think becasue we are more experienced and don't tend to worry over everything it makes it easier.
As parents we do become more relaxed, I mean we understand that it is ok if they cry for a few minutes while we take a shower. We know signs of teething and things like that that may have worried us teh first time around.
I hope this one will be easy too, I am sure there is a breakign point where it becomes overwhelming, but I just love being a parent.
Kimberly
