I think I fit in this group

I am 34, but the DR says that they go by how old you are when you deliver and I will be 35 by then.
What kind of testing have you or will you have?
She mentioned seeing a genetic couselor today which had me a little nervous, but I guess he/she will go ove rall teh options for genetic testing.
If anyone can fill me in with what they had done and how it was I would appreciate it.
Kimberly

Hey Kim, you totally fit here! Welcome.
I had my DD at 38. Now I am 6w6d and hoping for the best (crappy eggs, 3 m/c) at the age of 40 (41 at delivery). We did not do any testing for DD because I asked the OB if the results would change how he managed my pregnancy or delivery. He said, they do not need any of the results. Results are for us to decide what to do with. We had a level II u/s as early as possible (14 weeks, I think) and found everything okay. We opted not to do other scans, blood tests, or amnio because the scans and blood tests are a statistical game (age is even part of the statistical formulas they use) and give a higher rate of false positives than we were comfortable with. And then the only way to get definitive results were through amnio. We were not comfortable with the risk, albeit small, of miscarriage from an amnio after the difficulties we had faced. We were freaked out and nervous enough based on our past history and relieved to have just gotten to the 2nd trimester that we did not want false positives to freak us out even more. We could just not have dealt with the results. We had decided that whatever this baby was we would welcome it and love it and do whatever we could for it so we did not need to know the information that the scanning and bloodwork would provide.
That is my story. Now with baby #2 and the hellish first trimester wait, we are contemplating what information we want. We are leaning again towards going the no test route beyond the level II ultrasound and seeing where it takes us. Mostly in the interest of maintaining our sanity. I have many friends who have gone both ways, but my take is that the early testing results scared people and made them tremendously more anxious and then they delivered perfectly healthy, full term babies.
Sorry if this was a diatribe. But that is our story.

Kimberly -- glad you found us. I was going to suggest you look over here, but didn't know (at 34) how you'd take it. ;-)

I answered over on your other post (general pg board).

cheers,
-tia
