Pregnant and over 40?

We have been hoping to adopt our third child from China. China is having some slow down issues so the wait will be much longer and some of the paper work we will have to do over again most likely as some expire after 15 months.

This has me thinking of giving the old IF treatments a try again. If we did we would do IUI with donor sperm this time. I had gastric bypass surgery in September and will have to wait atleast another year before we try again. That will make me 42 as I turned 41 March 18th.

Would love to hear from others who had children at this age. Did you have any problems???

Stacy

Stacy,
I haven't ttc in a while but wanted to say the stats and the process of IVF has changed a great deal from when we did them in the late 90's. Maybe go in for a consult?
I have briefly toyed with the idea of doing it again (at 42).
Let us know
JenC

Hi Stacy, Thought I'd let you know I decided last year at 41 I needed another child to love nurture and guide through life and fill the emptiness I had. Our youngst was 18. Husband thought that was typical that I would leave it that long but agreed. He had the snip 17 years before so we had to do IVF & ICSI and we got pregnant first cycle which the clinic said shocked and surprised them as I am 42 and 6 weeks pregnant now. Give it a go. The only real loss is the money and I gather adopting from overseas is not cheap anyway. Go for it. Reach for that dream!!!! Bye Annette

I'm pregnant now at 40, expecting to deliver at 41. Too early to know, but so far genetic screening has come out well, so we are hopeful!

I got pregnant at 43 surprise natural after a miscarriage at age 40 and years of IF following. I just gave birth via c-section to a healthy baby girl at the age of 44.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

Hi, after 15 yrs ttc we did ivf once at 41 and it worked! I have 3 adopted children from South Korea who are such wonderful Blessing's. I just wanted one shot at it and got a grant from NY state. The pg has been hard so far, I'm 15wks tomorrow. It has taken a toll on our other children and has not been smooth. The IVF process was really good and pretty easy. Did 3 IUI back before the adoption and nothing. Sorry to hear China slowed down. Korea did also. The adoption journey has bumps and ruts just the the IF journey but it was amazing and wonderful. Good luck, Sandy

Barging in from a youngster (39 years young). :-)

Just wanted to say fantastic thread (all) and go for it (Stacy).

At 39 with #1 on the way I was facing many of the same questions as we were TTC and looking into adoption. In the end I think age is only one very small factor in it all. And today so many women are having kids (biological, adopted, first child, nth child) at "older ages" that it's more than doable, and we're not such outlyers (sp?).

Stacy -- congrats on your weight loss, and good luck with the adoption and whatever else you decide to try.

-Tia
