Unexpected Pregnancy at 45!!
I had used Fertile Thoughts about 4 years ago as my DH and I were trying to have a child. I have 3 children from a preious marriage. But my husband and I started trying to have our own child about 8 years ago. After 6 years and 6 miscarriages, I couldnt handle the emotional roller coaster any longer and we gave up trying to have a child. I finally got to the acceptance that we werent going to have any more children after 2 years. I just turned 45 2 weeks ago and I just found out that I am pregnant last week. I am extremely nervous as we typically lose the baby around 6 to 8 weeks. I have already been to the R/E and have started preventative measures to hold on to this one. My first beta was 343 and the second was 676. So, those numbers sound pretty good for my 33rd day. But I am understandably skeptical that this will work. The odds are not in our favor because of my age and history. Any words of encouragement would be appreciated. We arent ready to share the news with any family or friends until we get some more positive news. Thanks!

Pregnancy at 45
Hi:
I am 43 yrs old and also unexpectedly pregnant - now at 10 weeks. We also gave up trying as it was just becoming too stressful for me to go through - we never did any IVF as it's not offered in our area and I can not travel as we already have a son who is 11 and has autism. I got pregnant at 40 quite easily but miscarried at week 11 (although they think the baby died at 9 1/2 weeks). We tried for another 2 years without success. Gave up last spring - finally gave away all the baby stuff I had saved for 11 years and just got on with life - then voila - my little miracle. I am just taking it day by day and trying not to worry. We have not told anyone either as I would like to wait. I am told that I should get a CVS or amino done but am also terrified of disturbing the pregnancy but with my 'advanced age' (you would think I was an ancient dinasaur) and because we already have a child with pretty significant needs - (again not sure what we would do but would rather know than be surprised) I want to get it done. I am having a hard time finding anyone who has had the CVS test done though - I heard it is a higher risk than an amino but my dr. said it's not - the newer data says it's not -so she says. Well, just wanted to let you know - there's other 'older' mamas out there. Hope all is still well. |

I opted out of any invasive tests. I did not want to disturb my pregnancy and even though the odds of hurting the pg were 1:200 or 1:400, I opted to go with no odds. I figured I wasn't going to terminate the pregnancy anyway, so why would it matter?
In your case oldermama....I don't know what I'd do. Can you get a 2nd opinion on whether the CVS is higher risk or not? AMy |
