Hi Janet:
Congratulations! I am Barbara and I am 43 years old - 20 weeks pregnant. I have one son who is 11 years old - he has autism. We tried to get pregnant when I was around 38 - finally got pregnant at 39/40 and I miscarried. We tried for a few more years with no luck. I was told I had no chance of getting pregnant without intervention so we gave up and well here I am also.
I am so glad your scan was great - nice heartbeat! I had the amnio and due to a mix up with the tests/my gp being an idiot - well I had a rough time but in the end all was well but I wish I had the option of having a CVS done by someone good as the waiting was horrible and because the amnio is done so late (15 weeks no results until 17 weeks) it's really hard as you feel yourself and your baby growing and don't know etc. So I think you will be pleased to have the results so much earlier.
Anyway, nice to meet you and again Congratulations!
Barbara

It is very fitting that I post right after OlderMama, I am also 43. Natural pregnancy after 2mc and 2 chemicals.
Doctors were very satisfied to say "it's your age". Until I went to a new doctor who felt that my pregnancy rate was high and perhaps there was a cause to the mcs other than age. Saw a hemotologist. dx: Anticardiolipin AB. Take blood thinners and baby aspirin and maybe everything will be OK this time.
Just graduated from the beta boards and I'm very, very excited.

HI Paz:
Congratulations!!
That is wonderful news. I know a few ladies who have the same problem and with blood thinners and aspirin have been able to carry to term with no problems. Sending lots of good thoughts and 'glue' your way.

Thanks Barbara, I'll take all the glue I can get! I feel different and I feel very hopeful. Just hope we'll pass all the tests liek CVS...a little concern there.
Congrats on your pregnancy. I like that story—you sure showed them (whoever them is!)

Hi am new here. So happy to read other women over 40 and being pregnant as I don't know anyone to talk to personally. I am 42 bd 5 sept 63 and dh 43. We actually have 3 chn 26, 21 and 19 on Sun. I have wanted another baby for at least 10 years but thought I'd be ok. No way! By last year I told dh I really needed another baby. So hence our journey with ivf icsi. First cycle and I am 5 weeks pregnant today. I think I will give cvs and amnio a miss as I am to concerned I might m/c. My gyn said she will send me to Sydney for a couple of thorough u/s and they will pick up the main abnormalities due to age. She said very successful pickup rate. Dh is happy to support me with this. Go for 7 week u/s on 3 june to check for heart beat and if 1 or 2 embies are there. I am a little scared about being older, though I guess a lot of this is probably because we were so young when we had the other chn. Anyone else have concerns? I am just so excited. We already have the baby's room organised. All in white, all new- cot, cradle, change table, feeding chair, toy box, pram and oodles of clothes and toys. Can't stop smiling. Bye Annette.

Hi Annette: Congratulations
That is so great!
I am 44 now (got pregnant at 43) due date is July 6/06. I get a few concerns here and there - you know - how will she feel when she is 18 and I am 62
and while I do look young for my age - it's going to show. But other than that - I think I had a young young mother and she wasn't really that great (still isn't) and my dh mother was 40 when he was born and she has been a dream - they are super close. So I try not to think about it - that and the fact that more and more of us (older women) are having babies so hopefully I won't be the only old mom on the school ground
Those nuchal scans (I think your dr was talking about are great) I live in Canada and we don't have them but I am on a UK board and the ladies over there do them and they really can rule out a lot without risk so good plan! They are pretty spot on for detecting stuff or giving you better odds.
Well, congratulations again!! Please keep us updated.

I think this is a good place to introduce myself.
I recently turned 35 and have graduated to AMA.
I recognize a lot of you from the January Due Date Board..So hi all !
For the rest of you...
This is pg #2 for me...my Ds is 13 (I went from being too young (21) to being just ripe enough for one...LOL)
Anyway..DH and I have been TTC 10 yrs and now thanks IVF/ICSI, here we are...16 Weeks and looking forward to January.
I have had some special concerns this pregnancy, (positive NT screen) but a CVS at week 12.5 ruled out any chromosonal stuff. and found out ITS A BOY!
I have wanted to post here as I have tons of q's that I believe only those who have BTDT can answer...
So HI!

Hi, I'm Shawn, a 41.5 yo single woman ttc for 2 years using my own eggs and donor sperm. I have been pregnant twice, once with IUI and once with IVF. Both ended around 8 weeks with no explanation of a reason why. With my last IVF pregnancy, I had a stong FHB at 7 weeks, but the US at 9 weeks showed that the heartbeat and development had stopped. I am currently 5w2d pregnant from my second IVF attempt and in a holding pattern, waiting for my first US on Dec 11. I'm a bit worried because I had low but doubling betas. My doctor is not concerned, but I am. Also, as with all of my pregnancies, I have no real symptoms--just a bit of belching and extra bathroom visits. Given all of the extra hormones I'm on, though, it's hard to know what's attributable to what. Good luck to everyone!
