Hi Sadey,

How scary! I read anything greater than 3mm and I agree with Dutchgirl, I thought I read something about it being different with twins. congrtats on the twins by the way
My thing was I'd do this test and if there were any indicators I would do the amnio for definate results. I have read quite a few posts on women that have had the amnio and had no problems with it. I think its much more safe nowadays.
I know your so worried now, but hang in there for the final results before you decide your next step.

Praying for a healthy outcome!

Lynne

Thanks! Ya, I'm feeling some what relieved that it was negative, but negative was anything over 1:200... I was barely over that...and that is not so great.

I'm feeling positive, but have decided to still go forward with the amnio...odds for amnio at my clinic are 1:350 for singletons and 1:300 for twins. Therefore, less risk of m/c than my risk for genetic or chromosomal issues.

I just need to know so that I can prepare myself if something were to be wrong. I'm not one to do well with surprises, especially the "hard news" type.

However, deep in my heart, I feel like everything will turn out normal. I have great peace when I pray about it (that's my personal way of dealing with things) and no matter what, I'm gonna be okay!

I'm debating whether to have an amnio or not, they found an choroid plexis cyst on her brain, I guess that can be a marker for a problem but usually not. I'm like you I don't do well with surprises and that need to "know" is strong.
I have my next level 2 Dec 21 where they will check for any other problems but am told not to worry! ha!
Best of luck!

Lynne

Had my amnio on the twins, Wednesday 11/30

The amnio is now behind me, thank God. It went extremely well, and so far, still is!!! No fluid leakage, bleeding, fever or cramping!!!!! (Knock on wood)!!!

The Peri said that both babies looked and measured excellent in the u/s prior to, and he believes we may have been a victim of "too much technology"...he said they both looked very normal....even the thickness on the back of both babies necks. I was relieved to hear that, but after so much soul searching, we continued on with the procedure.

He used one needle and only entered my belly one time to take samples from both twins. He used some form of blue dye in one sac to be able to determine which fluid came from which baby. He told us that this had to be the easiest twin amnio he had ever performed; it literally took only minutes and I was just minimally uncomfortable. I guess it helped a lot that both babies’ placentas were graciously implanted on opposite sides of the uterus and completely out of the way of the Peri.

Oh by the way, during the detailed u/s prior to the amnio, we found out we are having a boy and a girl….so exciting!!!!!!! Now the 10-14 day wait for the results. I’ll let you know how that goes.

Welcome- you may want to check out the high risk bb too... I had a cerclage with my ds at 14 weeks-got an infection and carried him until 36 weeks- they took out the cerclage and I started having infection symptoms so they delivered him by emergency c/s! He is 6 and a half now and can unload the dishwasher and helps with the trash and can read! Keep resting- all worth it!
