I'm writing in for a friend of mine who is now about 7 weeks pregnant....and she turns 43 next week. It was through IUI and so far so good. I'll try to get her to share her story, but wanted to post another hopeful over-40 story. As I turn 42 this month as well, it's all very encouraging for me!

My first successful pg was IUI #10 (7 m/c's prior to that!). While on bedrest at 35 wks pg, I turned 40. I got pg on my own 2 years later and had ds#2 --3 months before turning 43. I don't remember ever having an FSH level done...but I had so many other problems, that one just hadn't been raised yet!

+++++ thoughts to all seeking their tiny miracles! There is hope!!!
smiley

(I'm going to add this...please know that I know it wouldn't work for everyone...I doubt it would have worked for me earlier, but all the pieces must have been in the right place when I got pg w/ds#2. My hormones were out of whack from bf'ing ds#1, and at 42 I didn't expect to snap back easily. I had weird dry patches all over my face...so I went to the dermatologist and he just gave me some stuff that said 'don't use if pg or trying to get pg!!' (and when I asked him about that he just said "we'll worry about that if you get pg!!!! dhac!) ANYWAY...I started doing my own research and that's when I saw that alot of the problems I was experiencing were because my hormones were out of whack, but nothing told me how to fix it. Finally, I found a book by Susan Weed called The Pregnant Year, before during and after. This book described alot of different herbs to take for different reasons...one was Red Clover to help all your glands start working together correctly....kinda like what they say clomid does when your cycle is out of whack. I thought 'hey, what can it hurt'. In 2 weeks the dry patches all over my face were gone, and in 5-6 weeks I found out I was pg. Ok...I had only been pg once before on my own, after 4 years of ttc!! The rest of my m/c's were IUI's...so in 10 yrs of trying I got pg on my own....at 43...??? I have no proof it was the Red Clover.......but.....?? FYI

Hi All + a BIG congrats to Sunshinegirl!! 10 weeks is a milestone!! I understand your hesitation to share the news with others. I'm 11w,4d, and we just told our families over the weekend. I just didn't feel comfortable sharing the news any sooner, but by 11 weeks, for me, it felt like the right time (to tell family + close friends). We are very friendly with a couple of our neighbors, so they know, but I'm holding off on telling all other neighbors for a while yet. As it's so cold here (MA), everyone is still wearing heavy winter coats, which makes it pretty easy to hide. I just don't feel entirely comfortable telling people I have a casual relationship with just yet (like most of our neighbors), or having them notice my suddenly prominent belly and asking questions, as I know they will.

I also completely relate to those "bathroom checks". I'm still doing it now, although it's eased off a bit recently. I have some symptoms (nausea, food aversions, a rough time brushing my teeth, congestion, headaches), but nothing too bothersome.

I had never been pregnant in my life, and I conceived in January, just 13 weeks before my 43rd birthday. After years of ttc without success, extensive testing, minor surgery, and approaching 43, we had pretty much given up hope. So, it came as quite a shock. It still doesn't feel entirely real, although my expanding belly suggests otherwise .

After all those years of "just relax", "you need to move on", and "just stop trying, then it will happen" (infuriating comments for anyone who has lived through IF), my husband and I can't help but be amused by the circumstances under which I finally conceived. I was hyper-stressed (finding it nearly impossible to relax, and worrying about everything imaginable), I was physically stressed (sick in bed with some kind of virus), and I had been gorging on Swiss chocolate for the past few months . So, while I don't suggest anyone takes this story too seriously , I will say don't get caught up in the "you just need to relax" philosophy. Hey, it's great to be relaxed, whether you're ttc or not, but incredibly difficult after years of IF, I know.

So, if you've been ttc for ages and you're feeling stressed, don't fall into the trap of thinking it will never happen because you can't relax. I'm proof that there's always hope, and I just don't believe anymore that being relaxed has a whole lot to do with it. Oh, and lashings of Swiss chocolate doesn't seem to hurt at all .

Best wishes to all!!

PS - Funnily enough, as soon as I was pregnant I lost all interest in chocolate and other sweets !!

Count me in the group as well. I was 41 when I completed my first full IVF (6 rounds of clomid and 2 cancelled IVF cycles, but the third time was the charm) and SHOCKINGLY found myself pregnant with twins. I delivered two 6 pound little girls 2 weeks after my 42nd birthday.

Hello Cakes - wow! I am impressed twins at 6 lbs each! What a good size for twins. How old are they now?

Hello also Memmo. Congratulations on your pregnancy. This is a pretty quiet thread but people do pop in now and then. How are you feeling?

Keep in touch.

Barbara
