when did you have your amnio done?

hiya
i am 10.5 wks pg and went to my ob yesterday. we talked about the amnio even though i am getting the nuchal fold test in a couple of weeks. he told me his center does the amnio at 15 wks. with my ds, i did it at 19.5 wks. i know, a little late. it was a last minute decision. anyway, i thought i once read that 15 wks is the earliest you can have it done. what does your ob office do?
thanks a bunch!!

I think I had mine at 19-20w. It was late because I had a positive triple test and then went had it. Not sure when they do it normally, as I had CVS testing with my second at 13w.

I'm late to this thread, so I'm guessing everyone has already done thier amnios. I'm going to be doing a genetic u/s @ 15 1/2 weeks and then probably doing my amnio at 16 1/2 weeks. I'm very nervous....but excited to get it over with.

Herewegoagian, I know we've spoken and you've given my some advise. I'm just wondering if anyone else has any feed back?

For example, how long until you know you are out of the woods after an amnio; as for as a possible m/c is concerned?

How long to get the results?

Thanks, Sadey

All,

I read a lot of this subject since I was scarred to death to have the Amnio. The later you have it, the better (less chance of m/c). They say it is okay anytime after 15weeks, I waited until my 18th week.

You will know if you are out of the 'woods' right there, they do an ultra sound after to see if the baby is in distress. Then the next 24 - 48 hours if you have no bleeding or cramping you are good.

He stressed to take it easy, no sex, no heavy lifting, exercise, etc. You can get the preliminary results in 3 days and then the full results in 7 - 10 days depending on your clinic. After years of IF, it was the best thing I ever did, now it is smooth sailing from here.

A lot of people say if you are not going to abort, don't do it. It has nothing to do with that, if you are going to have a special needs child, you need time to prepare, do research etc. most places have m/c rates of 1 in 400 or more - that is a VERY low chance of anything happening, expand it out that's 10 in 4,000 or 100 in 400,000 etc and I was told those numbers are very old statistics, with new technolgy chances are so low, my dr came staight and said m/c was not even a concern..

Good luck!
