I would love to join you!!

Hi,
I am transplanting from the Infertility/IVF High Tech board and was hoping I could hang out here for a while. I am 35...working on 36 (December) and just completed my 2nd IVF cycle. We transferred 2 good quality 8-cell embryos. My first beta at 14dp3dt was 1206, 2nd at 17dp3dt was 4001. I am waiting for the ultrasound on September 1st to see what exactly is growing in there. I have heard everything from twins to identical quads. I really will be happy with just one.

I also read on one of the Beta/HCG websites that high HCG levels could suggest down's syndrome, etc.. Has anyone ever heard of such? Is there any truth to that? I am not only concerned about the number of heartbeats we may see, but now that there could be significant developmental problems if this HCG level thing is true.
SEEKING SUPPORT and REASSURANCE!!!!!!!!!
Thanks,
Michele

Michele,
First of all, welcome to the board. I am sorry to say that I know absolutely nothing about a link between high beta's and down's. I do know that beta's appear to be very unreliable at predicting anything. If you look back at old posts on the beta board you will find many people post low beta's with multiples and high betas with just a singleton. Sorry you have to wait so long for an u/s. I know the waiting can be terrible. Please keep us posted if you get anymore info. I hope you can just sit back and relax and enjoy being pregnant--I know that is hard to do though.

Hi Michele,

I've never heard of any Hcg/Down's link either. My OB did say that at my age (38 in October), the odds of having a baby with Down's was 1 in 100.

Best wishes,
Athena

Welcome and congratulations!! I have to say I've never heard of the ds/beta link either. That's a new one.

I do agree with Sherry and others, the numbers often have nothing to do with the number of babies. My betas were not that high and I'm carrying twins, so who knows. The good news is your pregnant!!!! Yea!!
