Anyone over 40 and PG with their first child?
I'm 9w0d preg tomorrow and am crossing my fingers that this is a keeper. This would be our first child and I'll be 42 when I deliver. I really want another child after this one and figured if I waited 9 mos after delivery and am lucky enough to get pg with one of my frosties I'll be 44 when I deliver my 2nd child. Gosh...I don't know what kind of shape I'll be in after this pregnancy? 44 seems kinda old to have a little one and be preg? Is it possible? I'm in fairly good shape now.
Is anyone out there thinking ahead already?

I TOTALLY understand what you are thinking....I did exactly the same thing. I was 41 when I delivered dd (my first) and 43 when I delivered the twins. No problems at all with either pregnancy other than one day of pre-term labor with the twins at 35w3d. I delivered my dd at 38 weeks, 7 lbs, 10 oz and my twins at 36w3d, 7 lbs and 7 lbs 11 oz. I did blow my thyroid though and later found out this is not unusual in "older" or multiple pregnancies.
Another place you might want to ask this question is the Parenting over 35 boards. We have quite a few moms who had kids even later than 44. One of the ladies there had her twins at 46 I believe.

I was 41 when I delivered my oldest and 44 when I delivered my twins. Both pregnancies were realtively easy. No morning sickness, high blood pressure or gestational diabetes. My worst symptoms were exhaustion, reflux and itchy tummy. Kate was born at 37 weeks and Mitch and Corie at 34 weeks. They could find no reason for the early labors except that Kate and Corie's membranes ruptured.

50/50,
I thought I would respond to this post over here.......I delivered my boys when I was 46 years old........it was the best pregnancy......even though it was two babies at one time. You can do this, if an old lady like me could do it! The time is going quickly.....9 weeks already and counting, right? Margaret Anne |

Margaret Anne- you make me chuckle! I didn't realize you delivered at 46 WOW! You must be in awesome shape? You are not an old lady!!!
Yes, I'm at 9 weeks today. I can hardly wait to get out of the first trimester! I'll feel a little more safe then. 50/50 |

50/50,
I thought that might bring a smile to your face......and be ready for another, because I can tell you that having babies in your 40's or more, will keep you young because you have no choice.... Truly, though, it is the best decision I ever made and I would do it again in a heartbeat if I could roll back the clock five years. I am living vicariously through you, though.....so you just keep on keepin' on, okay? I am wondering if we might live somewhere near each other....I live in South Orange County. Take care of you 50/50.....you are doing a great job and the baby will follow in your footsteps. Margaret Anne |

Margaret Anne,
You did put a smile on my face again! I also live in South County...Laguna Niguel. Are we close? I knew you were some where in OC but didn't think it was South county cuz of your RE's location (FV). Thanks again for your support and sense of humor! 50/50 |

50/50,
This is just too amazing.......we are in Rancho Santa Margarita.....twenty minutes away from you and my boys will be going to school next year in Laguna Niguel......what a small world it is these days. Maybe we could work it out to meet in real life some time. Margaret Anne |
