CVS's have the same risks as amnios if they are performed by a very experienced doctor. There is a doctor in L.A. who has done the second most CVS' ever -- and he's one of the first doctors who pioneered the CVS procedure. The risk from his CVS procedure is way less than 1% -- I don't remember the exact statistics. He performs 1100 CVS' a year. Although I had had an amnio done previously, at this point, I would only consider the CVS procedure. However, you need to check and see how many CVS' the doctor you are considering has done. Initially, I went to a doctor who performs 25 a year -- big, big difference. But with an experienced doc, the risks are the same and way, way low with someone who has done tons of them.

This is such a personal decision....
I chose to do no testing except level ll u/s. If there had been a problem, then I would have chosen the Amnio. Most women, me included, do not have access to the very experienced docs... there is not one in my state that does them. I have not seen any of the latest statistics on m/c rate post cvs and/or amnio. If anyone has a link on the stats please post or pm it to me. Over time this subject comes up often and I would like to have that info to pass on. TIA, JenC

Thanks everyone for your advice. After speaking with my obgyn, he suggested I do the amnio, just because I am pg with twins and have had a history of multiple miscarriage. My mc's were very early, but still, he thinks that the twins might make it more tricky. He actually is a proponent of the CVS. He told me his wife had one 8 years ago. I'm in south Florida and there are 2 really good doctors that perform the CVS and specialize in it, but, since he said I should probably wait, I will. Thanks again everyone!
