Ultrasound question

I'm finally pregnant after 3+ years TTC, and 7 IUI's!

I had my first ultrasound on Friday at 6w5d. It showed a gestational sac, yolk sac, and fetal pole, but no heartbeat was visible.

They also thought the baby was measuring a bit small (at 6 weeks, rather than closer to 7), but by a negligable amount.

I am going in Thursday for another ultrasound. I am going crazy.

I know it's possible that they just didn't detect the hb yet, and things could be just fine, but I hate the waiting game.

My clinic hasn't done any blood work, so no idea what my numbers are (I have Kaiser).

Any success stories where the heartbeat wasn't detected early on, but was detected in later ultrasounds?

Hi Mary,
I cannot help you although I have seen many posts ove the years with IUI's and a late implanter- causing to be behind a few days. Early U/s has a margin of error of +/- 5 days usually so you sould be there. Thirsday will be here before you know it.... worrying is so easy, but try not to. Post after your u/s...
I hope to see a post soon.

I had a similar experience. I went to my OB and did an ultrasound which measured 5 wks 3 days. All we saw was a sack, no fetal pole. Also, according to the dates of my IUI, i shoud have been at 6wks. A week later I went to a hospital for the ultrasound which has a stronger machine and saw the heartbeat. Again I am measuring about a week behind. I am not going to stress out about the dates. I am only concerned with whether or not it is growing, which it is. I have a repeat u/s in a few days.

Back in our mother's day, they didn't do all these tests so early which maybe was a good thing.

I'm tired of worrying about every detail!!

I know its hard but don't worry. It sounds like everything is fine.

Thanks for the responses. I went to the doctor yesterday, and found the baby had grown a little, but not as much as it should (measuring 6w5d instead of 7w4d).

There was a faint heartbeat, but it wasn't nearly as fast as it should be.

The doctor said to wait another week and check again, but no to get our hopes up. He feels the chances are poor.

Right now we are just taking it one day at a time, and preparing for next week as best we can.

I wish it was better news, but thanks everyone for your encouragement and response.

Well if it helps to know, my RE will not do an ultrasound till after you are 7w0day.... as people get too upset if they don't see a heartbeat before that. I usually went around 7w2day or so... good luck,

I know it depends on the RE and their equipment. My RE sees you at 6w3d and has a pretty high tech maching and (obviously) does a transvaginal. I measured behind in the beginning (and I had IVF so we KNOW within a small windown of when we implanted) but has since caught up and surpassed her due date/measurements.

I know this week will be HECK for you, but know that we are with you in spirit
