Blood pressure meds allowed during IVF and/or pregnacy?

I stopped doing IVF's about 4 years ago. I am going to start again. I developed high blood pressure last year (I am overweight and attribute it to that - and yes, I am trying very hard to lose some weight). I am taking Toprol and Diovan for high blood pressure. I am also taking Zitia for triglycerides. What can I expect to hear from the doctor when I have my consult and tell him about these meds. Do you usually keep taking them during the IVF? How is that usually handled? Thank you, CJP

I am not pg, but face the same issues. I'm not on bp medicine but my bp has gone up most likely because I've gained weight. I chat with others who do have high bp and are PG and they keep telling me not to worry. They continue with a medicine, so maybe your RE will approve your current meds or change them. The friends also say that PG might actually bring your bp down. I've had 2 different RE's and neither one are concerned with my high bp. I'm currently on a diet for weight loss and monitored by a doctor using the plan at www.neuroreplete.com. I'm hoping to lose 20-30 lbs by the time I cycle in March. I have about 80-100 to lose, obviously that's not going to happen while I'm cycling and hopefully pg.

Just let your doc know.

cjp,
I hope you get more replies... I cannot help you in this area. HPB is nothing to mess with but I do know it can be treated while pg.

maybe more with experience will respond.

Yes, they are allowed...

I was under BP medicine for my first pregnancy (natural genetic daughter born 2/19/2000) and spent most of my pregnancy on bedrest. I must add that I did not watch my diet and gained almost 100 lbs. for that pregnancy -- most of the weight was water retention. I blew up like a balloon. This time I plan on eating a healthy and balanced diet so that I gain as little weight as necessary if I am lucky enough to become PG again.

Aldomet and Procardia are approved meds for pregnancy. Ask your MD about them. You most likely will be monitored more often being on BP medicine. My MD was strict and I had to go to her office twice a week and sometimes more just to check on my BP.

I am trying to lose a few lbs. before I have my DIVF transfer in mid-March. I have already lost 10 lbs. and hope to lose another 10-15 lbs. by then.

Good luck in your pregnancies. Hope to join you all soon.

Love,

Laenae
