My only thought is maybe your cat has allergies and his chin is so itchy he's rubbing it raw?

I don't have a cat, but I have a dog and he gets allergies so bad in the fall that his face & paws wind up raw from him rubbing and licking them (and can get infected if not cleaned/treated).

Either way, I'd recommend giving his chin a good wash and try to keep the area as clean as possible. If you think it could be allergies, you could try an antihistamine cream too.

Good luck...

My firend's cat had a similar problem and it was a reaction to the lead or something in their cat dish. they had to switch to stainless steel for all cat bowls and bottled water.

Poor kitty!
