Question about Dilation

Quick Question: Is there any indication that once you start to dilate, that the baby will be born soon? We're about a week+ away from a scheduled c-section, and my doc said this morning I am 1 cm dilated. I just wondered what is possible, that we still make it to our scheduled date, or if we'll be early?

I think it really varies so much on the individual. I know some people who go weeks being dilated a couple of cm. With Ethan and Ella, I dilated 4 cm in a matter of hours.

I would just try to take it easy for the next week. Sounds like a good excuse to be a little lazy while you still can

I'm due on Saturday and I've been 2cm+ for over 4 weeks now...I measured 3cm last Monday and still nothing.

It really isn't any indicator of what's to come.

Best of luck with the C-section!!

I was dialated with my first son at 2cm for 3 weeks and ended up being induced. I almost rather not knowing if I am dialating because it gets your hopes up and plays games with your mind. If only our waters would all break!

From what I hear most people stay dilated a little for quite awhile before anything happens (like 1-2cm,etc) but then there are those that go really fast. Hard to tell. Probably depends more on your contractions... Still exciting to hear that you're atleast starting to dilate!!

Thanks everyone, for the input. I have another appt. on Tuesday, so we'll see if I've dilated any more. Had one contraction the other night (woke me up), but none since. Hopefully our little guy will hang in there until Thursday!
