I had choosen a doctor before but we never got to the point of actually needing one outside the hospital. I was thinking of calling the office of the place we were going to go to see when they have thier open house to meet the doctors.
I am just curious out of the other "first time to bring a baby home" people if others are thinking of this?
At the hospital I deliver at, Max will be seen by at least one Neonatalogist (I say at least one since I am sure they all remember his sister and I am sure they will at least be curious to see Emily's little brother.)So this is not a huge pressing issue. However I like to have all my ducks lined up streight and with the summer I know things are not as structured as they are the rest of the year.
For you that have already been through this. Did you find the open house benificial to you... if you went to one?

I've never heard of an open house to meet the doctors. But then again, my DS is adopted so maybe that's why. That's cool they have that. I just picked a pediatrician based on several referrals I got to the same clinic (which has several doctors). We love her! She's great. I think it would be a good idea to meet them if you get the chance.

I think it is a good idea. All doctor's offices do this differently though. At the clinic where I used to work, we would schedule an appointment time for the new mom to come in and meet with us (the pedi and his/her nurses). We had a speech/presentation and info to give them and they could ask us questions at that time. The pedi doctor that I take my DD to does an open house once a month for new parents. I definitely think how ever it is done it is a good idea to go to the office, meet the doctor and staff, learn about how the practice works, and get all your questions answered.
BTW, for first-timers, be sure to ask about after-hours calls (evenings, nights, weekends, holidays) to find out what they do to handle them or if they offer office hours for sick visits at these times. I think that this is probably one of the most important pieces of info that you need to know!

DH and I will go to meet the pediatrician next Thursday (12th). I am really looking forward to it. I guess DH and I should get our questions together.

I've never heard of an open house for a pediatricians office. I think it's a great idea if your choice has one!
When we chose ours for the boys, I asked around to as many people as I could and took the majority. I also talked to pharmacists and hospitals. We were very pleased with our choice and we had not met her before the boys' birth/our final decision was made.

I went to see pedis individually and interview them that way, that way I got to go inside a patient room and have some one on one time(see if there were sinks and sanitizers handy). i also had some vaccine schedule concerns, so I was able to ask personal questions like that without lots of ppl around. It helped me make the best decision for my baby.
