Nuchal Fold

I have been reading some posts on nuchal folds. What is this test? The only thing we had done at 11 weeks (our last appt. with RE) was the nurse looked at our babies (we are having twins) folds and said they were both fine. Is there another test that everyone is talking about? I know this isn't a guarantee or anything but I should be happy and relieved that so far so good, right?

its tests for Downs and Trisomy 18 - u/s and bloodwork. It is not 100% accurate and does have a risk of false positive. I did it because I am 36.

A nuchal scan measures a little pocket of fluid behind the baby's neck which if thickened is an indicator (the scan is not 100% accurate) of Downs Syndrome/heart defect. I had one because I am also having twins and was told the blood test is not reliable for indicating risk in multiples. We were not an age risk, DH is 26 and our egg donor was 21, the scan is normal protocol for my OB's office for twins. We were referred to a specialist for the scan as our OB didn't have the equipment. It lasted 30 to 45 minutes and they took tons of measurements. I would ask your OB if you had the actual nuchal scan and what type of tests he/she plans to do. Take it as a good sign the nurse said everything was great, I would! Best of luck!

Thank you everyone. I remember the nurse at the RE's office at 11 weeks talking about measuring their nuchal fold and that everything looked great. It didn't take long but she did measure it. I don't remember the measurements though.
Thank you for the information. And good luck to you all. Wehave a Level II scheduled for May 16th I gues they will probably look at the folds then? We aren't going to have anymore tests done though because my DH and I wouldn't do anything different no matter what the results.

I had mine done at 12weeks. My doctor recommended I get it done -- not because I'm at risk because I'm healthy and only 30yrs old. It might be because I'm in Canada and it's maybe pushed more, don't know.

Anyway, it's not invasive and I wanted to have it done. I get my last b/w during week 16-18wks for it and get results then.
