jenbethk Update - Beta #8 and u/s
Hi girls....... Here's an update on my emotional roller coaster.
Yesterday I got a 390 beta, today 565, no sac at u/s. Approx. 5w3d.Then today I went for my u/s in which my RE did NOT see a sac. DH and I were devastated.... but RE said we would see today's beta and then figure out where to go from there. We're still hoping for that Vanishing Twin theory and a late implanter. I got a call a few hours later that my beta went UP to 565. So now they really have no idea what's going on. They think something is growing somewhere, but they don't know where at the moment. I am going back on Tues. morning at 7:15am for beta #9 and another u/s. IF they don't see the sac, I think my RE is going to send me to the hospital for an advanced ultrasound to see what's going on. As of this morning they saw nothing, including an ectopic, but I continue to pray for my miracle on Tues. The fact that my hcg level keeps going up is crazy, since they don't see anything yet! Has anyone ever NOT seen a sac at approx. 5w3d, but saw one shortly after???!!!! That's the big question here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any words of wisdom would be appreciated here!!! Thanks so much!!! Jen

I don't have any experience to offer I just wanted you to know that you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
It HAS to be positive that your beta keeps going up. Keep us posted.

I've been thinking about you today while FT was down! I was hoping to see a great u/s from you.
Many, many +++ thoughts for you on a wonderful u/s Tuesday. I really hope there is just a small sac there, and the u/s machine isn't picking it up. Please don't read further if you are feeling very sensitive, or only want to hear good news now... ------------------ I don't want to be a downer at all, but I have had a similar situation where it did turn out to be ectopic. My betas were going up and down, and never doubled at all like yours, however. Please make sure they follow you closely, as your numbers are getting high. They were never able to find my ectopic either. They thought they saw a "mass" in the tube with an advanced machine, but just decided that since there was nothing in the uterus, they would give me methotrexate. I really hope this is not happening to you, and I am sending many, many positive thoughts that you are able to beat the odds!!! Hang in there. I hope I haven't scared you at all. I am wishing you all the best, my friend. -Scout |

Jen,
Is there a chance that with a late implantation you wouldn't really be 5w3d.. or have you taken that into consideration already with your calculation? Your beta's are certainly encouraging.. I will be saying prayers for you that this truly is your miracle baby... Marybeth |

Hbby - Thanks so much for your thoughts and prayers!!
Scout - I appreciate your honesty and I'm sorry that happened to you! It certainly sounds like that is a possible scenario here, but of course, I hope not. I'm trying to be realistic and not get my hopes up again! Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised and really will beat the odds? This has definitely been a rocky road from the start, but yes, my betas really are going up and are starting to get high. I guess Tues. will be a big day for me. If my beta doubles and if they can see a sac on the advanced u/s machine, I'll be the happiest girl ever!!! But we'll see........ I've had so many highs and lows that I'm afraid to get too "high" again!!Thanks so much for your thoughts and +++++ wishes!! Marybeth - I think I can absolutely be wrong on my calculations. I had my FET on 2/2. It was either a 5d or 6d blast. I'm not sure cause we used both. My RE referred to today as day 38 as it's been 38 days since I started my estrogen patches for FET. And if it was a late implanter, I'm sure it could be behind that! I sure hope so!!!! Any suggestions on how I should be calculating??? Thanks for the prayers!! Jen

Dear Jen,
I am with Marybeth: due to late implantation you are nowhere NEAR 5 weeks, 3 days. In fact, I have always been told by my RE that the EARLIEST they ever expect to see anything on u/s is when the hCG level is AT LEAST 1000, preferably 1500. At my clinic the rule is that you do not get your first u/s until your beta reaches 4000. They keep repeating beta's till you get there, THEN do the u/s. Unless they have reason to suspect an ectopic before that. So, it would be normal not to see anything yet. You may on tuesday though! As your beta's are doubling so steadily now, by Tuesday they will be over a 1000, and you will see a small sac, is my guess. I am just a little bit upset at your RE I must say. First he takes a week off of your life by doing such a way too early beta instead of waiting for like a day 12 after 5dt, when things are more certain, and now he gives you an u/s when your beta is 565??? And makes you sick with worry again??? I am so sorry you now have this weighing on you again. I would ask him for his reasoning here, to be sure. Wish I could make these days fly for you. ![]() I have complete faith in your little fighter I must say. Just not so much in your RE maybe. BIG Tanja

Tanja -
I'm with you and Marybeth! I'm sure you're right about not being ready for an u/s. For whatever reason on an FET, my clinic always does the 1st beta on day 28 of the cycle. And with a 5dt it came out only 8 days later!! Even when I had my fresh IVF cycles, they did it 9dp5dt. I'm sure they must have their reasons for doing this. My RE has been amazing, calls us from home, has been very supportive and has been worried along with us. But you're right, this has made me into a worrying lunatic and if they had originally tested at 12pt or later, we wouldn't have known about my betas going down and then up, AND I would think he wouldn't have done an u/s yet. Although when I was pregnant last time he did an u/s at 5w3d and we saw 2 beautiful sacs. But I think given this scenario and that with 3 embryos transferred, it seems so likely for a late implanter! And if that's a hard-fast rule about ultrasounds not happening before 1,000, my guess is that he did it to rule out an ectopic... but then again he was hoping to see the sac today. So who knows??? (Sorry for rambling!!!) All I know is that I'm with you and I'm hoping I'm a little bit behind 5w3d and that on Tues. we'll see a beautiful sac! Thanks so much for your support!!! Jen

Laura,
Thanks for your prayers for my little bean! I was really shocked that we didn't see anything, but others keep saying that the beta needs to be at 1,000 to see a sac. I know you had low betas in your one pregnancy. Do you know what your beta level was when they saw the sac??? Jen

Oh Jen, you poor thing! You must be a nervous wreck. It gets to the point where you just want answers. I hope that you see your little miracle on Tuesday and that the less advanced equipment just didn't pick anything up. My RE doesn't do ultrasounds until you reach at least 1500 as he says it's not likely that there's much to see before that point. Hang in there...we are all routing for you!
