PT method Q

Do you sit your kids on the potty to get them ready to train?

Or do you wait till they're ready to train to sit them on the potty?

on Sunday Christine was really struggling to poo... you know lots of grunting, red face, concentration. she actually bent over a table to try to get something going.

Had her sit on the potty and daddy was on the potty too, and gave her a stack of books and in a few minutes she had pooped a huge piece of poo.

We made a big deal of it, and told her we would buy her a pumpkin at the pumpkin patch.

We started out by putting the potty in the bathroom for a while before we actually did anything with it, and we let the kids see us using the bathroom so they would start to understand a little. Before I went I would say something like "Uh-oh! I think I have to pee pee!" and then i would go to the bathroom and let them see me pee, lol!
It really gave them the idea about what to do, but for us the thing that's really made them train is ditching the pull-ups. The pull-ups make it too easy for them to just use because they never really feel wet in them. DS was resisting undies for the longest time, but he's been wearing them the past two days and is doing ok (so far) with the training. He's had a few accidents, but is actually making an effort to go to the potty. I noticed that when I put a pull up on him for his nap and while I was making dinner he just pee'd in the pull-up because he knew he could. I took a mini-seminar about potty training a few months ago and the lady giving the talk said pull-ups are for us because we don't want the mess and it can actually hinder training. As far as my kids go, she was right.
