Well, it's not the pollen or marine layer but the ... (x-post)

smoke & ash!

http://www.ksby.com/Global/story.asp?S=10873168

The wild fire is 25 miles east from us. This is the closest a wildfire has been to us since we've lived here in California and fire season is pretty much year round here now. This is what I get for not watching the local news...I had no clue until 24 hours later we even had a fire this close.

I've closed up all the windows (we've got no A/C so we usually keep our windows open). I was wondering why my throat was burning, etc. My dh's allergies flared up bad yesterday afternoon, but with my 2 year old sick with a head cold we didn't know if he was just catching it or what. Now we know it's all the ash in the air affecting us.

This happened to us here in Raleigh last year. Not typical of the area at all so it was really weird and lasted several days.

Hope its under control by now. We are in No. Cal and we've had a lot of smoke in the air the past few days. Not sure where it is from- nowhere close, but still yucky.

Finally got some containment (only 10%, but it was 0% for days), but feel sorta trapped inside due to the ash and smoke.

Now up to 20,000+ acres burned and now we have over 1,000 fireman (we have some from WV who flew in on a special flight yesterday). They are all at a base camp less than 2 miles from my house. Now, chances are extremely low that the fire will come here, it's the air quality that is affecting us. It's also sad to see so much forest burn.
