WWYD re childcare and an RE visit...

I just got an email from my DD and DS primary nurse (when they were in the NICU... yes we formed a good bond that has lasted through 2 children. ) that she can't watch my son on Monday when I go to the RE consult. The only other person that I think would watch him is the Pastor's wife (Lutheran church... I go to 2 churches regularly). The problem with this is Monday is the Pastor's ONLY day off during the week. So I feel bad asking them to watch him on his day off (she isn't working right now). Not to mention it is at least 1 hour drive from their house to my RE in the best of times and my appointment is at 5 pm so I have to deal with rush hour, both ways. If that were not enough Max will have his 1 year check up that day (12:30) and will get his injections for whatever they do at 1 year (I think it is the MMR with chicken pox, the flu shot and who knows what else) so that sort of complicates things too (hense me wanting to get a nurse to watch him). We can take him with us, and he would likely do well as he is an easy going kid generally speaking. I just don't know though.

I could maybe ask a "grandparent" (I was baptized in the Lutheran church and the congregation is "aging" so I have lots of "east coast grandparents" ) to watch him but I wouldn't want to insult the pastor's wife either.

What would you do? Oh and BTW the Pastor's wife was going to watch him tomorrow when the appointment was tomorrow before it got moved (RE moved my appointment due to a procedure). She said she would watch him on Monday but I know she tends to be the type of person that will go out of her way to help someone and I don't want to take advantage of that.... and she is about 31 weeks pregnant right now (this will be their second child).

If you were in my shoes what would you do?

OK, I was going to say go with the pastor's wife since she has graciously said that she would do it and like you, I don't want to take advantage of people but I've learnt that people don't offer unless they really want to BUT after reading that she's 31 weeks pregnant with her 2nd and Max is having shots that day, I'm just wondering if it might be too much for her but I would definitely speak to her about it and see how she feels.

Then, if she isn't able to do it and you explain that you don't want to put too much on her at this time, and ask one of your congregation "grandparents" to do it.

And if all else fails, I would just take him with you. I'm sure that you can give him something to appease him during the appt. and most places have to take into consideration that it's not always "easy" to get a babysitter.

I hope that things go well at your appt.

I ended up bringing him with us. He did well and only really complained in the last 3-5 minutes.

My RE said that I need to do the whole monitoring cycle and yata yata yata again. The IVF cordinator would be in contact with me to tell me more specifics. However he doesn't want me on a monitoring cycle till Max has been weaned for 4 weeks. He "relieved" some presure from me on Friday so that is the start of the 4 weeks. I am on CD 25 right now so I am hoping that I can get AF ASAP so I will not have to wait much more then that 4 weeks.

He also said that over the holidays (Christmas and New Years) this year they are going to be painting the lab. They need all the smell to be gone from that, before anyone can cycle again (embryo's die with some smells ) So he thinks that I may be able to cycle sometime in January... though if my cycles are begining of the month to end of month, then I will likely have to wait till February... at least that would be my guess. Again though this is questions for the IVF cordinator.

Yesterday Max had his 1 year check up. He did well but he made me cry when he got his injections. He looked so unhappy and looked at me like "how can you let them do this to me!!!" Max is 26 lbs 4 oz and 32 inches tall. So he is in the 96th percentile for height and the 89th percentile for weight.

He will go back next month to have his flu shot (given in 2 doses) and hopefully they will have the H1N1 injection by then so he can have that at the same time. Then he has a 15 month check up the day before my next dentist appointment on December 18. Hopefully, because of all of this and the odds not being great I can make it to my step brother's wedding (in Florida on October 23, 2010... I will not travel that far if I am pregnant) we will be able to go to Florida this Christmas. That step brother has yet to even meet Max... though his betroved did meet him, along with his twin brother.

I'm glad that he did well at the appt and sounds like things are in motion. Many positive thoughts and prayers that you will be giving Max a little brother or sister in the very near future. That really sucks about the paint fumes. Can they not store the embryos somewhere else while they are painting?

They look so pitiful when they get those shots don't they? I remember with Kyle the first one was like "Hey Doc, what the heck are you poking me with?" and then the 2nd one, the balling started. He was so upset but he perked up when the pedi gave him a cookie out of his signing cooke jar "Nothing but a hound dog"! Kyle and Max were the same weight at 12mths/1yr. It's hard lugging him around I tell ya! I weighed Kyle at home last week and he's now 27 1/2 lbs! This child just doesn't stop growing!

The embryo's are there now. This is a FET not IVF. So I assume that they will move the embryo's to a different location for the painting. Oh well. I am really enjoying my son right now and he makes all better. And realistically the longer I have to wait the more "healed" I will be from the c-section and that is good all the way around.

Oh so Max isn't going to slow down? He better start walking as his primary mode of transportation. I already get strange looks from people when I carry him around.
