Making Your Own Baby Food

Does any one have any good baby food recipes or ideas? I need to know how to do meats/meals especially.

G's exzema flares up really bad whenever he eats anything with green split peas in it (I've never tried any meals with the yellow split peas). And almost every baby food dinner has split peas in it. The boy can only eat chicken and apples, brocolli and chicken, and sweet potatoes and chicken (which I have yet to find in this great state). He's getting bored and not wanting to eat them at all.

I bought an electric baby food mill on eBay yesterday so now I need help in knowing what to do with it!

I haven't done meats yet, but I've done veggies and fruits. I don't usually mix, I just make them separately and then mix them when serving, if I want. I just use my food processor to puree everything. I use this website http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/ it has a lot of great information and recipes. I find it very helpful. Good luck!

I agree with the wholesomebabyfood website. I have that bookmarked.

I am a bit surprised that you can do meats though. Max's Ped will not let Max have meats till after 8 months. We can't do citrus till after 9 months and berries until after a year. :yuck: I know I have been doing Max's solids on a slower pace then most people but this isn't me it is his ped.

I also agree that you should freeze just one item like chicken then you can mix it with whatever veggie or fruit you want at the time. I put all of Max's babyfood in ice cube trays till frozen then I put them in freezer bags. When it is time for Max to eat I take out 5 cubes (mixture of brown rice, veggie, and fruit) and defrost them in the microwave and serve. It has worked great for us. Max doesn't even like the jarred food and often doesn't finish it if I have to give it to him.

Good luck!

I tried making the meats with DD but it's really hard to get them pureed to the right thickness, and honestly it really grossed me out. I tried chicken and also beef and it was just--yeck I really do recommend the veggies and fruits being homemade. I have a cookbook that has awesome recipes, for things outside of baby food too, like fruit leather (aka fruit roll-ups) and cleaning products too. The book also gives you age recommendations too, and how long things can be stored.

Here is a link. I bought mine used and you would have never known it.
