Intestinal Colitis? - Me!

I hope this is OK that I ask this here - since it is about myself and noy my LO BUT I trust you all and value your opinion.

So 3 weeks ago I had my tonsils out...I did not have a bm for 13 days!!! When I did there was blood - then a lot of mucus and bloody mucus then diahrea - all this for about 3-4 days. Then it stopped for a few and the mucus and blood came back yesterday!!! I'm really scared but the doc looked up in there and said it is VERY inflammed and could have been caused by the constipation and is trying to regulate...if not we have other tests to do!

So - any thoughts? experiences? I'm scared I opened up a whole new issue and praying it is not chronic or serious cause I just want to be healthy!!!! We were wanting to try for another bebe this new year

Thanks luvs-

Barge,

I am no expert but my step brother has something that is around ulsterative colitus or crohns disease (the doctors are perplexed about it), anyway it is my understanding that this would typically show up before the age you are currently. My step brother has been battleing his "issues" for several years and he is 26 right now.

I hope for your sake it is just some sort of infection. I wouldn't wish what my step brother is going through on my worst enemy!

Sorry you are going through this! I know after I had DS I was extremely constipated and had bright red blood on the tp but that was it. Hope you get well soon!

Sorry, I have no experience with this. But, ulcerative colitis is what you described: lots of changes in the bowel, constipation, then diarrhea. I do remember you asking about constipation and blood following your childbirth here. I hope they can figure out what is wrong, without having to do too many painful and torturous procedures.

I feel for you!! I had a bout of norovirus (from my darling DS) a little over a month ago and I'm just getting back to normal... GI issues are such a bummer! I've been eating lots of yogurt (greek style) and whole grains, fruits and veggies. Try to skip anything fried or fatty- those things are harder to digest. The yogurt and oat-based granola with fruit for breakfast really helps me. My mom makes the best granola and I eat yogurt almost every day. When all the healthy bacteria in the gut get killed off (with antibiotics) it takes a while to get things repopulated again. There is a probiotic tablet at Trader Joe's that my son's pedi recommended to me. If you can't take the yogurt, you might try that.
