Just started taking med's for PCOS

I am new to this. So i don't exactly know were to start. .....well from the begining would be a good place!!.....My husband and I are trying to get pregnent we tried everything but to no avail. To make matters worse I don't have regular periods. I never have. I started to get worried when i put on 30 lbs. in just over a month. So I went to the doctor and went through a battery of bloodtests and fasting glcouse test and you name it i got tested. Well anyway we found out that I have PCOS. So I was put on MET. and a low carb diet (I LOVE CARBS!!!!!) My question is has anyone had any luck with this treatment? Is there a cure or am I going to live with this for the rest of my life? I am overwhelmed with this problem I never knew I had. To make matters worse my husband is in the Coast Guard and i gone most of the time so i am left with no one to talk to. Please Help!!!!

    Welcome coastiewife.
Sadly there is no "cure" for PCOS. I know, because I too have it.
PCOS can be treated with metformin and losing weight definitely can help the symptoms and side effects. I was prescribed metformin too recently and noticed that it really helped my food cravings and also made me feel just healthier all around.
I know how hard it is to have infertility issues & deal with your dh being gone all the time. It's not easy.
Many women have great luck with metformin and low carb dieting to help lose the weight. Sometimes it even helps restore fertility.
    Good luck to you!!!

Also wanted to mention--in case you haven't seen it--we have a PCOS bb here at FT too. If you click on this link it'll take you there.
    Lots of good info.

    PCOS & Met

I was on Met w/ PCOS for about 4 months and got prg. I had a tubal, and had to have surgery for removal, but i DID get pregnant with it. The low carbs bites, but its worth it

Hey there. I was diagnosed with PCOS in December. My PCM put me on metformin before I even saw the RE in December so I've been on metformin for 4 months now. I haven't noticed a huge difference in the metformin helping with an appetite or anything. I've tolerated the meds good. I too LOVE carbs so this is extremely hard for me. My RE told me that if we weren't pg in three months to come back, so it's time to make that appt.

That being said, I do know alot of ladies who have PCOS and have gone on to have healthy babies, so it's possible

I've been dx w/ PCOS since 1999. Metformin has helped "regulate" my periods and control my weight. I have not gotten pg by being on Metformin alone, but alas, we have male factor issues as well.

I have some recommended reading for you:
