Anyone Else's Kiddos not Talking Much Yet?

Larkin still doesn't have many words in her vocabulary. At least not words anyone but us could understand. She says Dada, Mama, and some form of Logan, but it sounds more like DaDa, but she always says it when trying to get Ds'sattention, she also says uhoh alot, something that means milk or drink, and a bunch of sounds that she puts together and sounds like "there he is". Oh, and she says night, night. She jabbers all the time, but just not much of anything we can understand yet.

Jared's "verbal explosion" just started in the past few weeks. Now he picks up a word a day , it seems.

I wouldn't worry. She is jabbering - it'll come. Besides. I have always heard that a second child talks later than a first because the older child will talk for them.

Ds is always saying "she wants this, that, etc." Always talking or her. Thanks for the reassurance!!

Tiffany:

I think a lot of us here are in the same boat. My little ones are trying and some are doing better than others, but John William says mom me (two words for mommy!) dada and light....that is it! He jabbers a lot too. I will talk to his pedi next month and see if we need speech therapy. Hang in there.

Yep, Ben is still not saying much either. He's exactly like Larkin. I try to say something to him, hoping he will repeat, but no. He picked up "light" this week though. Except the other night in the car, someone cut me off, and I yelled, "Sh*t!" And well, yeah, THAT he repeated and then he laughed. Luckily hasn't said it since.

Oh, I wanted to add: Ben spends everyday with his cousin, Chase. Chase is four months younger than Ben, and they've been together for well over a year now. They TALK to each other. It's the strangest thing. Ben runs up to Chase, and yells, "YA YA YA ya yaya YA!" and Chase says back, "YA YA YA YA YA YAYA ya ya." One will point to something and make a noise. And the other goes and gets it. Twin language? And Stacy, I'm sure yours have a bit of that going on, too!!!

Tiffany, I am glad to see this! Our kids are both roughly the same ages and it is the EXACT same thing here...I am thinking it is completely the 2nd child thing. I get worried because DS was speaking sentences by 13m and although DD has a lot of words she isn't *really* talking much. I am hoping that explosion kicks in (although if she talks as much as C I may eat my words ) We will have to check in with each other in a month or so. I am sure they are fine!!!

I'm also trying to remember that maybe Ben being a month early has something to do with it, too.....

We ar in the same boat and I worry everyday about his speech. At this point he is the only child, so the 2nd child isn't a factor. Our son is babbling more but only a few recognizable words. I'm glad you posted this to know we aren't alone.

I'm just so glad Larkin's not the only one not talking much. When she had her 18 month check up, her dr. asked if she had at least 6 words in her vocabulary and she didn't and doesn't still. He said we wouldn't worry about it until she's two, so hopefully she'll pick up some words before then.
