    Jared's 18 month appt

Jared is 18 months old today

He is still a skinny guy and my dr. is getting a bit concerned that he doesn't eat. He gained less than a lb in three months and is now 21lbs 3oz. (3%). He is 32" (48%). She wants me to keep plying him with Carnation Instant Breakfast, Pediasure and the like and see him again for a weight check in 2 months. She gave hints like adding olive oil to mac and cheese and heavy cream to his milk to get more calories into him.

He was supposed to get 4 shots (including the flu shot) but couldn't get one of the shots because he was three days shy of it being six months since his last dose. He will get that shot at his weight check.

Hey Hilary - other than the slow weight gain is he doing fine otherwise? He looks so happy in all of the pictures you send so I assume so. Hopefully he'll add some extra ounces for his next appointment.

oh - if he's not crazy about his milk you could add a tiny bit of ovaltine to it - that's what I did when I weaned my gys off formula - they thought it was wonderful. They make a malt one that does not have caffiene in it (chocolet does)

Yep, she said he is a perfectly normal 18 month old who just doesn't like to eat! He just fell a bit off his curve which she said is normal at this age because of increased activity but since he was so small to begin with she just wants to be on top of things.

He loves his milk, yogurt smoothies and even likes the pediasure he just doesn't take a ton of it.

Yeah, Ellie is super tiny too...still 19.5 lbs. She hasn't gained in almost 2 months. At our 15 month (actually 16 cuz I didn't realize she needed a 15month) the doc said usually if they are healthy and happy, nothing is wrong. They are just small. But they ended up taking blood (SO not fun....she was LIVID. they took like 7 viles of blood!!!!) to make sure...but everything was fine.

So...she said in almost every case they are just small. Good to be on top of things though!!!!

    Hilary:

I am glad he is doing well as far as health goes. His weight sounds good, so maybe he is just going through a picky phase.....that lasts a long time

Carnation is a great additive. Hopefully he will decide that food is a good thing soon. If not, that attitude may serve him well later in life!

When Ds was going through chemo they kept threatening they were going to put a feeding tube in if he didn't gain any weight and we always put cream in his milk. He didn't gain much that entire year, but he did maintain and they were happy with that

18 months, holy cow where is the time going?!

I agree with MK - Jared always looks so happy in pics, I'm sure he's just fine. He's probably just a picky eater. He won't starve himself!
