My newborn DS has a cold already!

My DH had an upper respitory viral infection last week that he is still not over. We tried to keep him away from DS as best we could. Then, 3 days ago, my 3 y/o DD caught it the night before her big dance recital. The two of them have been sneezing and coughing and suffering with a severe runny nose.

Well, I didn't think newborns caught colds, but this morning my poor little DS was screaming his head off, wanting to be held constatntly, which we thought was gas until he started sneezing uncontrollably and his nose was running like a faucet.

He already had an appt with the pedi today for a well check-up, and the Dr. said YES, Newborns can catch colds, especially if the entire household is suffering from one. I have to keep him upright, use the aspirator and saline drops on him, and watch for any other symptoms. Scary stuff, and my poor little guy is soooo unhappy.

Looks like we are all in for a couple of sleepless nights ahead.

That's awful, it's hard enough to care a baby, much less a sick baby. I'm sure it's scary to. Hang in there and I pray they are feel better soon. I hope you don't get it. Take some zycam now even if you don't feel sick and maybe you won't get sick.

I am so sorry to hear your little one is sick with a cold already. That must be so heartbreaking and frustrating. I am sure you would take it away from him if you could. That is so sad! I hope he (and the rest of the family) is feeling better soon!

Thank you ladies for all of your well wishes.

Looks like everyone is getting better here. My DH, who has been sick for 9 days is still coughing and weezing, however, today is his first day back at work since DS was born 3 weeks ago. He leaves me alone today for the first time with a sick 3 y/o and congested 3 week old!!!

My DD is a trooper. Even though she has been sick for 5 days now, she is still my little helper. And DS is getting better. His nose is not as congested, and he is sleeping better. Thank God for saline drops and the aspirator!!!

Hope all is well with you and your families.

Ok, I really feel for you now Marcy! My DS has had a cold for going on 17 days now. And DD just got it last night. We went in today...but same old same old...just use saline drops and moist air. She threw up 4 times last night! Ugh, it is so hard when they are so little. She is just miserable! I was soooo thinking she wouldn't get it...but she did! So I feel 100% for you!

    Oh Foogball!

So sorry to hear your little one is sick. It is a horrible thing when they are so young and tiny. My DD didn't get her first sniffle until she was about 6 months old, so having a baby so young suffering with it is quite a shock.

Have faith, the saline drops will do the trick. But, my little one doesn't take kindly to me dropping them in his nose, so again its sad to see him uncomfy.

Gosh, your DS has been sick for 2 1/2 weeks?! Yeah, my DD has had marathon colds like that too. Never ending.

Here's wishing evreybody a speedy recovery. (((Sends healthy vibes)))
