Hi! My DH and I have finished our homestudy and in the third month of "the wait". We live in a small town in northern California. We are both gradate students. I was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 38 and spent the last 1.5 years dealing with that (super ick). Because of the chemo and the anti-estrogen drug I'm currently taking, biological children aren't an option. That is what I get for waiting too long. Stupidcancer! Anyway, we are really excited about adoption. We are in a domestic newborn program with an attorney. I've been on this board for just a few weeks and don't post much because I don't have much to contribute at this point. Thank you all for sharing your stories and being an inspiration. I hope that I can help others in the same way when I have accumulated more wisdom on this subject.

I know the board is super slow but I just wanted to introduce myself...My husband and I have been married for 9 years, trying ever since we've been together really which has been 13 years....We've had 7 natural pregnancies which have ended in m/c (unknown reasons with the exception of our son whom I had a nearly 6months gestation), 1 failed IVF, 2 successful FETs which also resulted in m/c (so that brings the total to 9), and 1 failed FET. We are in the process of getting my body back in shape and to prepare for possibly a 2nd IVF cycle. In the meantime we have decided that we were meant to adopt and started looking inot that Feb, March we actively signed with an agency and took all of the required courses in that period. Due to a glitch with my OOS fingerprint our homestudy was held up, we finally got the go ahead to do the homestudy in June and we were approved on 7/6...We are now waiting to be matched with the perfect children that are meant to be with us, we are asking for 2 or up to three max preferrably under the age of 5. Aside from that bio, I'm eager to find other families who've known and shared our struggles yet are determined to be parents by any means necessary.

I was diagnosed with Premature Ovarian Failure at the age of 20. I have no eggs of my own and therefore cannot concieve unless I do the very expensive donor egg procedure. My husband and I decided to adopt and have been approved and waiting since Jan 09. 6 months and 2 weeks later and we still have not even been matched or called on once. We are hoping to adopt anywhere from infant to 2 years old. We would even be open to siblings from foster homes, but so far all the siblings I have found have already been adopted.

OMG, now you're scaring me...You've been waiting since Jan, wth! Have you made an appt with your agency to see if they have a book of children waiting that you can perhaps have your sw look into? Or have you contacted the agency to see what may be taking so long?
I surelyhope that you get placed soon...

Sorry asking4just1, I didn't mean to scare you. I think the wait depends on what you are looking for. We are looking for a caucasian baby or caucasian/hispanic or a toddler. I just got off the phone with yet another agency and they said the avg wait time for full caucasian infant is 22 months and the wait for bi-racial is 6 months. I think if you find a child from the state, it varies depending on how many visits the states require you to have with the children in their foster homes prior to the adoption. I haven't found any agencies, except for a facilitator out in CA, that has a book of waiting children for adoption. From what most of them have told me, they pretty much wait for a birthmom to contact them and then give the birthmom all the profile books that match what the birthmom is looking for.

If you want to take a more active approach for kids that are in foster care right now, here is a good website where you can view children from each state and then you can send in a request/inquiry about them. I have inquired about a few kids from these sites.

    Richmonder,

It is a little scary but I know with the criteria you are looking for in your dream child that the wait can be a little longer. I'm hoping and praying that you are matched soon, are you looking for 1 or siblings?

    Asking4just1,

We would take up to 4 siblings. I'm suprised at how many sibling groups are out there with up to 12 children. We really just want to be parents and I know that we have such a good life to give to a child or children. Its funny because before trying to adopt, you really don't think about your life. Then you have to make your profile book and you realize that you are competing with everyone out there so want it to look the very best. Have you made your profile book yet?

I think I read in another post that you are a military family. I think the military has resources to help you adopt. If you need any help with profile books or anything, please let me know and I can share with you some of things that we have done. You also might want to check some of the online sites to post a profile. I wish you the best and hope for a speedy adoption for you.

We haven't done a profile book the only thing that was mentioned from our agency was to do a collage but unfortunately the pics that we have with children are poised pics and they wanted us to get some interaction photo's...We attempted to do this past summer with our neices and nephews but it was really hard since our time with them had to be cut short due to their mouther having to go back to work unexpectedly. We did give the agency about 5 photos of us and our house.
Yes, we are a military family and they do have resources but its very scarce mainly just reimbursment after the adoption is finalized.
