So what DO you put in the diaper bag?
Because of the snow last weekend cancelling my 2nd shower (shower was in another state that got hammered), I wasnt able to get to Ikea and get the storage unit I need. I was going to use it for storage and some decorating. Now I'm kinda of looking for things to do. Well, I actually have PLENTY to do but of course have no energy.
So I thought I'd do something easy- stock the diaper bag. Besides the obvious diapers and wipes, what do you put in there?
As shower gifts I got diaper disposal bags- basically tiny trash bags and disaposable changing pads. They'll be going in there but what else?
The wipes I received that I was going to put in there are a hard case with 12 wipes. That wont be enough, will it? Do I need those soft packs that have like 40 wipes?
How many diapers do you pack? Guess that could depend on how long you plan on being out too.
I plan on breast feeding, so I thought a wrap/blanket, nursing pads, and maybe a sample size tube of the Lanisoh cream.
Burp cloths (1 or 2?), receiving blanket?
I wouldnt say I'm a germ freak but I worked in hospitals/health care long enough to always want my hands to be clean. I was thinking a small bottle of hand sanitizer? I keep one in my car and a mini one from Bath & Body in my purse- hey its flu season.
Would a travel sized pack of bleach wipes be going too far? I would think its better to be overclean than not enough when it comes to babies.
So my thoughts-
diapers
wipes
my "hooter hider" (yes I actually got one!)
a receiving blanket
burp cloth
nursing pads
nipple cream
disposable diaper bags thingies
disposable changing pad
hand sanitizer
bleach wipes?
complete change of outfit (for baby)
diaper rash cream stuff (or only when needed?)
I'm still laid off and really dont see me taking the baby out unless necessary so I wont be using/needing a diaper bag on a daily basis. Just want to be prepared.

I think you have everything covered. Put the extra outfit in a gallon ziploc, so you have something to place the soiled one in when needed. Also, you may want to throw in a couple pairs of socks as they get lost easily.

I would go with a bigger container of wipes. If you use the smaller size, you will be refilling them everyday. Breastfed babies poo a lot, sometimes after every feeding. You may also want them to wipe yourself off if you are spit up on, etc. I also kept about 10 diapers in the bag, in case we were gone all day or I forgot to refill them. The only other things I might add is some necessities for you. When my dd was a newborn, I stopped carrying a purse because it was too much to take a diaper bag, infant carrier and a purse with me everywhere, so I stuck some lip balm, kleenex, etc. in the bag for myself. I also had a small container of purell to clean my hands after a diaper change or before nursing, etc. I didn't do the sanitizing wipes, but do now that my dd is older and sits in highchair in restaurants, etc.
