varicocelectomy surgery
Hey,
I'm new to the forum, I was diagnosed with low sperm count last year, about 12,000,000. So not extremely low from my understanding. Our attempts over the past 2 years have been innaffective though. I was diagnosed with billateral variocele and opted to go straight for the surgery which was done last week. I live in Canada so didn't have any insurance/cost problems. I also was lucky enough to get in with a great couple doc's. I went through many other tests including dna testing etc.. all of which came out with ( I think) fairly positive results.I'm looking for other's experiences with this surgery. I think my recovery is going well, I'm on day 6 post and have still some fairly high pain but not too much swelling. Anyway, just thought I'd introduce myself and ask for anyone elses experience with recovering from this surgery. Thanks.

my dh had the surgery in January. He had a open liagation. Which one did you have? He had alot of pain after the surgery. He was basically sitting with a ice pack down there for a week and still had pain till about 2 weeks after surgery! We have had the 6, and 8 months post appt's and his counts haven't improved at all. We will see at next months appt if it has changed. We are all set up to do IVF next year anywayz but, are hoping for a natural miracle in the mean time.

Hey,
I had the microscopic varicocolectomy, where they go through small incisions just above the pubic area, I think it is the most current method being used. So, I guess slightly different in recovery. Sorry to hear about the non-improvement, I assume you've tried vitamins etc... if you don't mind me asking, how low were his numbers to begin with? what were if any other factors, I have read that the results vary widely based upon many of these factors. Here's to good positive thinking and luck for all ![]() cheers, Thanks. Quote:

Hi Aleandree, I also from BC canada, and my DH found out he has a varicocele, he is waiting for the surgery now, (no one knows when he can get in), so can you tell me how long you have to wait for the surgery? and so far did you see any improvement? You reply to me is very important. Thank you.

about 2 weeks after, so I'll let you know if anything happens in the next month or so. After that I sill see the docs for another test. Tell your husband it's not soo bad. Scary because of obvious reasons but the recovery is not too bad. My pain is pretty much gone after week 2 unless I stand or walk for too long.

My DH had the open surgery back in March. He had a little longer recovery, and unfortunately developed a hydrocele (one of the possible complications). He had to go back in for surgery to correct the hydrocele. We saw an improvement in him numbers after the first surgery tho. Good luck, you'll know in 72 days!

Hi dreamer79, sorry to hear that your DH has to go back in for surgery again, it sucks big time!!! But happy for u his number go up. Would you mind tell me what is his number before and after? did Morphology improve?
Morphology to my DH is more important since other numbers are fine, only 0% morphology. Now I'm thinking should I wait for his "improvement" or move on to IVF, but no sure 0% can do IVF... sigh! |

I'd be happy to share his numbers, but now I can't find the paperwork! Yes, it did go up, sorry I don't have details.
Fingers crossed that your dh's morphology will go up. Not sure if you can do IVF with no morphology, maybe can do it with ICSI? I'd ask the RE if I were you. |
