SA Timing

DH is going to do a SA sometime next wk. The instructions we got said no activity for at least 48hrs prior to providing the sample. I've also read info saying not to go without BD more than 3-4 days prior to giving the sample either . Anyone with experience that can help me ?? How long did it take to get your results back ?? Thanks

My DH did his first SA after 8 days of abstaining (due to my AF and just being busy). Motility was a bit low so my RE recommended we do it again after 2-3 days of abstaining. It didn't make much of a difference (motility increased by about 4%, count went down a few million). But I would say 2-3 days is good. We got the results the next time we met with the doctor, within the week. One thing was that they would not give me the results without my DH there, as they are HIS results (though I kind of thought of it as ours). Good luck!

My dh is going for another SA next week to see if there's been any improvement. He's been on Fertilaid, eating pumpkin seeds, and drinking a lot more water so I am hoping to see a nice improvement! Also, he doesn't drink any alcohol anymore for about a year(used to only drink when we would go out like once a week), never smoked, and he is in great physical shape so I don't get why dh has a low morph in the first place! Argh!! Anyway, we always abstain for 3 days when doing any SA b/c we get better counts that way. We've had plenty of practice so we know what works;-) Good Luck!!!

In my opinion I try to get as close to 48 hours as possible and the lab I have used states 2-3 day turn around to the doctor but most of the time it's like 5.

Here's some of the info I have compiled from all the searching I have done.

The longer you wait the more the count goes up but the slower and more miss shaped they are. Total count does not mean as much as how fast they are then followed by if they are the right shape.

This is a good paper that I think everyone should read about some general stat on TTC.
