what do you think?

My DH's SA came back in June with 28.5million and 47% motility. The RE said that his motility was slightly low, but the number of sperm was fine so that it wouldn't be an issue. The next time we met with the RE he looked at the exact same test and said that the motility was low and that he thought we would have to do IUI. The test was taken after 8 days of abstaining, which I mentioned to him, so he advised that we do another test after abstaining for only 3 days, which we did. He also told my DH to take selenium and stress tabs (B vitamin). Got the results today and while he wouldn't tell me the exact numbers without my DH there he said that the motility was still low and that we would need to talk about IUI next time we're all in together.

From what I've heard, 50% motility and higher is best...so is 47% really all that bad?

I don't understand how one minute he looked at the numbers and said it was fine and now we've jumped and apparently need IUI.

Any comments?

Is it possible for your husband to see an urologist that specializes in male factor infertility? That may really give you some answers and they tend to know more about the male side of things than an RE. Good luck!

I'm not sure about the morphology...I will ask him about that next time we're in. I will mention to my husband about a urologist. Thanks!

My dh's count and motility are around your dh's but his morph is low and progression is slow so that's what his diagnosis is. We've been to 2 urologist both of which said there's nothing you can do. Dh started Fertilaid a little over a month ago and we are going to see a new urologist that specializes in Male infertility. Also he is going to start Acupuncture. I will update you with current S/A. Good Luck to you.

Met with the RE today and he repeated that he thought we should do an IUI, starting this coming cycle. DH's count and morphology are great, just slightly low motility. I've been doing some research and read that it takes 3 months for the sperm to begin reacting to any vitamins/medications that a man is taking. Because of this, I thought it sort of premature that the RE was recommending IUI already, as my husband has been taking stress tabs and selenium for only about a month. My husband mentioned this to the RE, who agreed that it does take about 3 months for vitamins, etc. to effect sperm. So we told the RE we will not be doing IUI right now, but will try a few months naturally (well, with me on fertility meds.). I just find the whole thing kind of strange. I don't like the feeling of doubting my doctor!

I am sorry you are having doubts about your re. I know all to well how that feels. I read on a website for a male infertility urologist that said it takes 70 days vitamins and such to take affect. It looks like you should have great luck getting pg with iui if not naturally. I am sending you lots of babydust.

Yes it does sound strange that the RE is jumping to IUI. I know what it's like to question the RE as we have had to switch because the first one did not what to solve the problem but just start doing a procedure. Now that we have switched we are doing more testing of both myself and DW and I feel we can then make a choice on which direction we take.

I do have a suggestion that you have DH take more then just selenium and here's a link with some of the different vitamins he can try. Just remember that there is that little 3 month waiting period.

Oh and here is a good image of what each day of the 3 months looks like.
