Sperm Maturation Arrest
I am sorry for any inaccuracies as I am new to this site. My son and daughter in law were told that they were infertile after they went through TESE for ICSI. He has non obstructive sperm maturation arrest. His FSH is 19 and his testosterone is normal. Being in the U.S., I have been in contact with Dr. Peter Schlegel from Cornell who told me that Cornell does things differently than anyone else and that he should have more testing done. Has anyone been to Cornell and had better results than at their own Doctor? His current Doctor said that he is up to date with everything and that he does not see the need to do anything more. Dr. Schlegel thinks otherwise. Should I suggest they fly to New York, from California for a consultation? They so much would like to have a biological child. They know that as far as my husband and I go that whatever means they have a child it will be fine and that any child would be loved the same. Any new information that anyone has would greatly be appreciated. We have seen other people mention supplements and medications, any thought on that. We are looking worldwide for any hope for them. Does anyone know of anything experimental? Thank you in advance for your time. Smiley

Azoospermia-potential sperm maturation problem
My husband and I have been going through the same thing. We saw a urologist yesterday, and from the examination, he thinks that my husband has a sperm maturation problem. Coping with the news has been so difficult and we are trying to take things one step at a time, but it has been very hard. We have another appointment next week to discuss the results of the blood work and ultrasound. The doctor most likely thinks that we will have to do IVF in conjunction with the biopsy and HOPE to find some mature sperm. It is so frustrating and we are trying to be patient but we want to have our own child. If we find out any information regarding studies, new research etc, I will let you know. A few of my close friends went to Cornell and I am hoping to reach out to them to see if a trip to Cornell will be beneficial for us. Please keep me posted as well with what you find out. Feel free to email me too: hopeful5544@gmail.com
Best of luck to your Daughter and Son-in-Law |

Thank you for your post. My son and my daughter in law are talking about Cornell also. My son still has to wait another couple of months because it is too close to his last procedure. I will keep you posted and look forward to your updates as well. My email is hayomyom@aol.com.

Hi. I just saw your post. We saw Dr. Schlegel - wonderful! He is a miracle worker! We did a consultation back in April 2007 - our drs here told us no hope. But we flew to Cornell - I saw the IVF doctor.
Anyway, we did IVF/TESE/ICSI back in Sept 2007. I had 12 eggs - only one embryo fertilized - and we put one 5 cell embie back in. He is now a 15 month old. we went to Cornell again this past May and did it again - however, we found no sperm. So we used donor sperm for IVF. But those embies did not take - we were positive that they would! So now we are back to square one. I am doing a donor IUI cycle in 1 week. We are so glad that we tried one more time. It is a difficult and heartbreaking road - but all totally worth it. Please go see Dr. Schlegel and see what he says. Even though we did not find sperm the 2nd time, we are so thankful that we tried. Dr. Schlegel was also shocked that there was no sperm. But we are happy that we tried and now we are moving on. We will never wonder what if anymore! We are also so thankful for our little boy - he is truly a miracle!!!!!! The one good sperm my hubbie had and he is a baby! I wish the best of luck to your son. If you have any questions, please let me know! |

Thank you for your post. I will keep everyone updated as I have news. The kids are putting this on hold for a couple of months as my son has just had a procedure done a couple of months ago and they have to wait. They are talking about doing Cornell first before they make any other decisions. Right now they have a brand new puppy to keep them busy.
I wish everyone luck on this journey and I will keep lurking this blog to see everyones updates. If I have anymore questions or information I need, I will definitely not be shy and ask. |
