Is ICSI possible with 0.1 mil sperm count

Hi there,

I had a chemical pregnancy last month with our one and only frozen embryo and now we are getting ready for a fresh IVF cycle. DH's SA just came back and the count is at 0.1 mil. We are meeting with the doctor in a couple of days for a follow up but the nurse already called and told me that doc wants to do a TESA backup before I start the cycle in case there is zero sperm at the time of retrieval. I really do not want DH to go through TESA.

I really thought ICSI is good enough for us...is that not true? 100,000 is still better than zero though right? Has anyone gotten a BFP with low count like us via ICSI? Our last IVF cycle 3 years ago, he had 0.8 mil and that gave us our 2 year old daughter.

Any stories will be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello, Is that the amount after they wash the sperm? My DH has 1 million pre-wash, 190,000 post wash and we will be doing our first IVF cycle in August. They are having my DH go a few times this month to freeze the samples in case there is a bad number the day of retrieval. Good luck! This is our first time going through this.... very nervous.

Hi. That is enought for ICSI! We had only 20 sperm total!!! And one of the sperm was strong enough to fertlize an egg and now he is a 1 year old!

If your hubbie has any sperm at all without surgery - that is good enough!!! He does not need surgery like my hubbie did. He had so sperm except the like 20 after his first surgery. The 2nd surgery, there were no sperm left.

Don't let the dr do surgery if you have some sperm. That does not make sense to me???? ICSI is good enough!

Why wouldn't your RE just have your husband go in earlier and freeze some samples? I don't understand why they need to do TESA as a backup when they can take some samples instead, and freeze them. If there's no sperm to freeze, then you can talk about TESA, right? I would contact your RE and ask these questions. Maybe he has a good reason that we're not thinking of.

Is that really true only one? My Dh goes in 2 months. His test showed no sperm count. A doctor 18 years ago said it was sertoli cell only syndrome but doc here says its non obstructive maturation arrest. (Sorry if I got that wrong Im new) and he is on clomid and then we do the tese and Im so hoping for at least one sperm in there.... Is my hope mis guided? I also wanted to know if anyone knows anything about this Fertilaid crud that was on fox news maybe someone can youtube the video so all can see it increased this guys sperm after trying for 10 years she is preggers...?

hey that is true. he had only one good sperm - my hubbie is now 34. he might of had some more good sperm when he was younger - but now it is gone. so tomorrow we are doing a donor sperm iui.

so my point is - it only takes one sperm especially if you are doing IVF/ICSI.

never get discouraged - the day we found out that only one sperm fertilized my 12 eggs (one embryo) I was so sad and just knew we would not get pregnant. and was sad because i wanted to freeze some.

then when we found out the embryo made it, we were happy - but then before the transfer - it was only 5 cells which is on the really low side. so we were nervous and sad again because we did not expect to get pregnant.

and we did!!!! so ladies - never give up hope - our son is truly a miracle. i thank God everyday for him.

Good luck to all! mollie

My husband had low count, not as bad as you guys but it was about 6 million post wash. We had him take acupuncture and the Fertility Blend and his count is now up to 19 million post wash. So the Fertility Blend really works! He also cut out caffeine completely, not sure if that had any effect on it. I'm signed up for an IVF cycle in January and I think we might try ICSI anyway because that's what most doctors do when they do IVF treatments

This is an old thread but you never know when someone will ask the question again!

My DH had ten (yes...10) in an entire sample after five days of abstinence.

The head embryologist came out to talk to me and tell me how difficult it was, but we wound up with eight 8-cell embryos on transfer day.

Like the PPs said, it only takes ONE to make an embryo.
