How much does clomid improve MF issues?

Our urologist started my dh on clomid yesterday. How much of an improvement can I expect to see in his SA? Our highest numbers were 5 million total motile sperm, the lowest numbers were under 1 million TMS. We have to wait 3 months before another SA, but I'm so curious how much we could expect the numbers to improve.

I am wondering the same thing. My DH had a surgical liagation proceedure in January and I was wondering If clomid would increase his count? I hope someone can answer your question. BTW...prior to surgery my DH's count was less than 1 MIL. We won't know the outcome of the surgery till June. But We haven't concieved naturally yet so I am not that hopeful!

I do want to ask our urologist about Clomid when we go back in June!

I was asking myself the same question last night, and here's what I found:

"Clomiphene citrate (Clomid, Serophene) for the infertile male
Some men with relatively mild sperm abnormalities have been treated with clomiphene citrate (tablets) in an attempt to improve the semen. According to published medical literature, Clomid for the male sometimes can improve the sperm count or motility. However, well-controlled medical studies have shown no increase in pregnancy rates.

A "double blind" study (World Health Organization study, published in the International Journal of Andrology, 1992) of 190 couples, gave clomiphene or placebo ("sugar pills) to men with abnormal semen parameters. The men took either clomiphene or placebo for 6 months. Pregnancy rates were not increased with clomiphene:

8.1% pregnant in clomiphene group
11.7% pregnant in placebo group"

from http://www.advancedfertility.com/mal...ytreatment.htm

Not encouraging, but hoping it is somewhat helpful to you.

Hi hopeful-my dh had zero sperm in december due to hormones so his doc put him on clomid and hcg. In march he had 7 million for our first ivf cycle which didn't work out. We are getting ready to start ivf #2 this month and he just did another SA on friday and his count is at....48 million!! So it has worked for us but his issues were all hormonal and he is doing massive amounts of hcg as well. HTH

Sbing, that is so inspirational that his count increased so drmatically. What was it about his hormone levels that made the doc give him hcg hormones? Thanks! And I hope your next cycle gets you what you want! Ps have you considered icsi?

Imama- thanks! His bodys own ability to produce testosterone was shut down(therefore no sperm) because he was doing testosterone replacement therapy due to low test levels. So the doc gave him clomid and hcg- I believe the theory is in a man-if you load his body with estrogen then his body will automatically start producing testosterone. We are really excited and happy with his levels because if this next cycle doesn't work then at least we can try naturally, we are doing ivf and yes with icsi because of mf. Let me know if you have any other questions and good luck to you:-)

My DH's testosterone levels are not definitively low, they are borderline, so said the endocrinologist-not an RE. DH believes that he does have many of the symptoms of low Testosterone. I'm so happy to hear of everyone's successes with clomid. I'll mention this to our Docs.

I was in the same boat. I was what they call low normal. After the clomid watch out. With the huge spike in testosterone I found I was like teenager. Which probably helps with the baby making business. My dw did not complain.
