Why does it vary so much????
I'm so tired of talking about sperm, but yet there always seems to be something to discuss!
Dh had his first ever SA 2 years ago. It showed 5.9 million sperm, 8% normal morphology, and 40% motility. His second SA was about a month ago. It showed 9.0 million, 42% normal, and 13% motility. Today, I just picked up our new results which indicate 6.0 million sperm, 6% normal, and 2% motility. WTF??? Obviously, his sperm has the potential to be semi-ok, as the 2nd SA indicates a lot of things were better. But, now this. What causes such drastic changes? I was thinking of starting a spreadsheet to compare the SA's and actully calculate how many "hours" in between last ejaculate & the SA to see if we can find our "best" time since I know that can be a factor. What other factors cause such differences? Are there other things I should be keeping track of? Thanks for your help!!!!

I don't know for sure, but I would guess it could have something to do with diet, medications, physical activity, hot tub use/sauna/cycling, etc. I think it would be really difficult to pinpoint what exactly is making the numbers so different. Is it the same clinic? Same person looking at the sperm each time? Same grading system?
We have low morphology - all SA's were pretty consistent at being under 20% morphology. Our first one showed there was 0%. |

Same everything & we've totally avoided any heat to his testicles and we've been very cautious about diet, vitamins, etc. This is so frustrating. SO....if it was something like meds, etc. would it be something that happened in the past 3 weeks (in between SA #1 and SA #2) or would it be something that happened 72 days ago when the sperm was actually being made?

My DH had big variations in count and morphology, but his motility was always bad...don't give up hope it really only takes one...
