new here
Hi everyone! I am looking for a place where I can get information and support regarding male factor infertility. My husband has hypogonadism or low testosterone. He has been on Clomid and Gonal F. His hormone levels are all normal, however first SA was bad.... no sperm detectable. Now he is on Novarel injections (helps sperm production) and will get another SA in 3 months. Anyone else have a similar situation? Any success? Even if he is able to produce sperm, the docs think we will have to do IUI or IVF..... thanks for any insight that you may have!

Hi KKrose, My DH has low testonseterone and no ejaculate, (thanks to sudafed he is ejaculating now) which is a little different than no sperm.
I'm curious to know why your Dr thinks you'll still need IUI or IVF. The reason that I want to know is I have a feeling that we'lll need it, too but my DR's are going step by itty bitty step at a time. (Refer to me prior post on my possible need for patience). |

I know how you feel....
Hi iMama, I know how you feel.... this process is very long and requires alot of testing, waiting, retesting
I'm not sure why they think we will have to do IUI. Probably because the injections are costing us $1000 per month, so as soon as he would have enough sperm, they would freeze it (that is if we don't get PG on our own) and then do IUI. To complicate things more, I also have very long cycles (>40 days), so I am starting to get tested as well. Good luck with everything!

Hey KK, An IUI sounds like a good thing for you, it probably won't cost much more than his injections and will probably work fairly quickly-as long as his numbers arent too low for iui to be reccomended. My DH just went in for his SA today, so I'll find out soon if we're in a similar boat as you. I'm really concerned we are and I really hope that the numbers are good. KK, have you considered IVF with ICSI? It works even with very little sperm.
Why or why not? When I get DH 's SA back, I'll carefully weigh whether it makes sense for us to spend 1-2000 2-4x on IUI when IVF costs $7000 or so for 1 try - about the same amount from what I can tell. Right now our treatment consists of me feeding DH a smoothie and vitamins with things that help sperm: zinc, anti-oxidants, vitamin c, etc daily. With your long cycles, I think that gives you fewer chances to get preggo each year and a medicated iui or maybe just monitored iui would definitely help with that too, so you will know exactly when you ovulate. |
