Clomid for Men?
Our IF is unexplained, but DH has a low-normal sperm count. There may be a slight motility issue as well. His urologist suggested that he take Clomid (25 mg daily) as there is empiric evidence that it may help improve sperm count/motility. No comprehensive studies have been done to prove this, and Clomid is not FDA approved for male factor infertility. Nevertheless, the doctor said there would be no harm in trying it.
I haven't found a lot of info about risks and/or side effects for men taking Clomid. Does anyone have any info they could share with me? Anybody else's DH taking Clomid?

**preg mention**
hi sadboutIF- i think i may have posted the same question over year ago and i researched the net incessantly about this. i have pcos and my DH has low morphology which didn't make us candidates for IUI. so, we went straight to ivf/isci. in the meantime, my DH's urologist also put him on clomid during our 2nd fresh cycle and dh swears by it that it helped in us getting pg because his provided a better sample. there isn't alot out there regarding this treatment for men but i did read from other posts forums that it help partners w/ count/motility after varicoele (spelling?). the urologist told DH, it won't help w/ the abormal forms but it would help boost the count and make up for the bad ones. i like to think so also. as for side effects, there were none that my DH or myself can remember...hth |

Hi Bianca,
Thanks so much for your feedback, and I'm glad that things worked out for you. My DH is totally keen to take Clomid, but we just wanted to try and find out more if possible. He wasn't keen on the idea of developing "moobs" or having crazy mood swings (and neither am I)! It is good to know your DH didn't have any side-effects. We'll be doing our last IUI cycle this month, and if we're unsuccessful we'll be moving to IVF w/ ICSI next time. Please keep your fingers crossed for us! |

no problem....my dh was ok to take the med. anything to help w/ the process because his part was less evasive than mine. i wrote in my post we had my DH take clomid during the cycle when in fact he started 2 months before it. he had a better sample (in volume) because it gave time for sperm to mature. we hope it helps this cycle for you.....much baby dust, sticky thoughts, and all those good things!!!..GL!

I just wanted to throw out there that Dh is currently on Clomid....His next SA is not due until the end of the month to see if it worked but I have my fingers crossed. Also want to mention that i have heard from someone here (and i can't remember who, dang it) but her Hubby had low count and all that and just folic acid tripled his numbers.
My Dh is on clomid but is also taking mulit-vitamin, baby asprin and folic acid. We are going to try over the next 3 months naturally before we move on cause it was expensive on the clomid for us cause our ins doesn't cover it for him. I hope everything works out for you!!! Oh also to answer on the side effects, DH has had mild if any, he says he feels a little more emotional than he would like to admit and he's had a few hot flashes.....but no man boobs or anything....hehehehehe Last edited by kitkat30; 01-11-2009 at 03:16 PM. I had a varicocele repair done, and was put on 25mg of clomid. 9 months later my dw got pg naturally. After 9 months on it I did have an occiasional headache, and found I was more aggresive on the med, nothing crazy. It does work though.

Thanks to everyone for your feedback :-) So far DH is feeling ok on the Clomid. He said he does feel a bit more emotional than normal but no other side effects. We'll keep our fingers crossed for his next SA.
