Had the microsurgical repair end of last year. Original specs on the SA were:
1.5 million count <32% morph 0% fast swimmers <2 % normal shaped Post surgery 4.4 million 65% morph 32% fast swimmers and 11% normal shaped. After the urologist has me on clomid which makes the testicles produce higher testosterone and potentially raise the count. The big gain was on the parameters. The fast swimmers typically represent the ability to have a male baby. The tendency if that is at 0 which it was before is to only have girls. Also my fragmentation levels are normal now. I find out in oct if the clomid has done the trick. Even if not the other parameters normalizing mean a better quality sperm so ivf should be more successful. |

Thanks for answering. My DH is most likely going to get one done before the year is up. His count is less than 1 million. They also said his hormones are off and he has fluid in the testes.

The microsugical was not that invasive it took about 5 days to be fully functional. What they do is open an incision in the groin area and raise the spermatic cord. Under the microscope they ligate all the veins. They then sew it up and its done. The good thing about going for the micro surgical are the success rates. Most are 2% or less failure rate. A lot of the other procedures if they fail will lead you to have to go surgical anyway. Check out the following link.

Pain question
My DH had a vas reversal in 11/07. He now has two varicoceles and the uro recommended surgery. DH is very apprehensive because the vas reversal recovery was so bad.
We have an RE appointment 10/1, but I am trying to get info for DH too. Any thoughts? What was the recovery like? Jillian |

The recovery was not bad I never took a pain killer. The scrotal sack stays swollen for about 2 weeks its not perfectly comfortable but not bad. By the 3rd week it was like it never happened. The next side affect was the size of the testicles doubled. I had atrhrophy from the varicocele. Overall I am happy I did it.
