Need help understanding results...

Okay so I talked to my doctor and had him review my husband's lab work and this is what I got:

Semen Analysis showed 0 sperm count with a total volume of 2.

The lab results were:

Total testosterone 273
Free testosterone 39.9 (not percentage, just the actual count)
FSH 15.6

I have no idea what any of this means. My dr is a family medicine doctor so he just told me the results and said that the total testosterone was on the low side of normal, the free was extremely low, and the FSH was on the high side of normal.

Can anyone help?

0 sperm is definatly not a good thing. They do have treatment for low testosterone. Clomid can be given to a guy and boost the levels which can cause sperm to grow. Have they checked for varicoceles, or blockages?

mk,

Thanks for the response. I know about the 0 sperm (this was his third SA in 3 months) and the third time with 0 count. This was the first testosterone level. My concern was with the FSH being on the higher side of normal and the testosterone being so low it points to primary gonadtropism (spelling??) and everything I read said that hormone therapy won't fix infertility if it is primary (which occurs in the testes) but it will normally fix the secondary gonadtropism (pituitary problems). I was just curious if anyone else had this problem...

His urologist has done a physical exam and said that everything looks/feels normal. The next step is to schedule a scrotal and transrectal ultrasound, and then a biopsy to rule out blockage, but he doesn't go back until the 5th and I'm really impatient

Thanks again!

I was reading on that condition. This is what I got from a medical website.

Hypogonadism is treatable with hormone replacement, testosterone in men. Restoration of fertility may require additional treatments with injections of the pituitary hormones, LH and FSH.
