mk- Thanks for the link, I enjoyed that article.

Linden- I am in a similar boat. My dh has a morphology of 2.5%. I've had 5 m/c using dh's sperm. We then decided to try a donor even though 2 REs told us it probably would not make a difference. I got preg on my second IUI with donor and now have a dd to show for it. We are now ttc #2 and I've had 2 chemical pregnancies however I think it may be because I am hypothyroid. In my opinion and experience I think you could have a sperm issue and you may want to consider using a donor. I recently changed REs because we moved and she agreed based on our history that we should continue with donor sperm. GL in whatever you decide to do.

Hope- I believe that normal morphology is anything over 12-14% using the strict kruger morphology test. If you are just using the standard sperm analysis normal is anything over 30%.

Pregnancy mentioned

Just wanted to give everyone a little hope out there. I posted previously on this thread in Aug and just wanted to update everyone. With a strict morph of 2% (not so good) and DNA Frag of 16% (good), with 2 IVF's plus ICSI, we are 4 mos pregnant. We did 2 IUI's and nothing happened. The 2% good morph sperm never made it to the egg apparently. I attribute the pregnancy to ICSI.

Dee~congrats to you. My dh has 2% normal, but his last SA was in 2005. He hasn't been home long enough to get a new one, but I hope his morph has improved. We did try another cycle in Aug when he was home on leave, but that was bfn. The office lost my test results but AF came by the time they found them (2 days later) we'll be doing IVF w ICSI with the military next year after our adoption.

Sperm morphology

My husband morphology varies from 5 -8%. Can anyone tell if this is normal morphology to conceive?

Thanks,

Hi Gina13,

My husband's morphology is also something like 6-7%. Can you please tell if you were able to conceive with that morphology.
I tried 6 IUI's and 1 IVF but failed.

I think there is alot about male factor they do not know. My dh also had normal counts and normal motility, but 6% morphology. They kept saying we would get pregnant with IUI's. Well we did 7 IUI(with clomid and then superovulation injections for me) all neg.... then 2 fresh and one frozen IVF.... all negative. We were beginning to think I was the issue. We had spent nearly 3 years doing all this and $30,000 out of pocket..... so we RELUCTANTLY went to donor sperm and I got pregnant very easily. So I really think they dont' know everything they need to about sperm issues. I think they found ICSI and feel that is the way around it all. Just my opinion.. wishing you a quick success.

My dh's morph varies between 4 and 21%. We have done 8 iui's ttl: Natural and with clomid and injections, all bfn. We did ivf w/ icsi and bfp. No h/b at 7wk u/s and at 8wk u/s. Did FET bfp. 1st beta 74, 2nd 50, 3rd 30=(. I am wondering if we will ever have a normal pg with dh's morphology. Please shed some light if you have any info or success stories with same situation. We are feeling so hopeless and unsure of what to do next. Of re says we should do ivf w/ icsi again. Oh yeah,I forgot to mention that I had clotting panel and came back normal after my 1st miscarriage. I do have mthfr with normal homocysteine levels and was on 6mg of folic acid w/ this pregnancy and I still miscarried. So Confused, Please help!

Lila, I am so sorry for your losses and the ongoing heartbreak.

Has your DH had DNA fragmentation testing?

If you are compound heterozygous A1298C/C677T or homozygous A1298C, here is a suggestion that is WAY out there: irregardless of fasting homocysteine, take folate supplements, not folic acid(!). Candidly: One of my drs recommended folate, but my other dr thinks it's a bunch of balogna. RPL and folate studies are both relatively new, but I found a couple online. I think it's worth a try for me (MTHFR is also correlated with depression which is in the studies). I could share the concept (and/or links) if you are interested.

For our upcoming IVF/FET, my RE recommended PGS (like PGD), but I am reluctant. Did your RE mention that?

Hugs for these difficult times,
~Sharon

TTCyears- Thank you for responding! My re actually put me on Folgard 2.2, 1/day, then when confirmed pregnancy 2/day in addition to the prenatal vitamin and baby aspirin. We haven't had the DNA fragmentation test yet. I just asked my re about it yesterday and I am waiting to hear back. Re said he wants to wait for my beta to be below <5 before advising me to do anything which I think is bull. I don't get why he has to make me wait. I know I can't get any test until then but at least I could know what he is thinking about. I am definitely interested in any information that can help me. Thank you so much!

Thanks for the hugs!
Lila
